Psalm 52

The Steadfast Love of God Endures
To the choirmaster. A Maskil#52:1 Probably a musical or liturgical term of David, when #1 Sam. 22:9Doeg, the Edomite, came and told Saul, “David has come to the house of Ahimelech.”
1Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man?
The steadfast love of God endures all the day.
2Your #Ps. 50:19 tongue plots destruction,
like #[Ps. 57:4] a sharp razor, you #Ps. 101:7worker of deceit.
3You love evil more than good,
and #[Jer. 9:4, 5]lying more than speaking what is right. Selah
4You love all words that devour,
O deceitful tongue.
5But God will break you down forever;
he will snatch and #Prov. 2:22 tear you from your tent;
he will uproot you from #See Ps. 27:13the land of the living. Selah
6The righteous shall #See Ps. 40:3 see and fear,
and shall #See Ps. 2:4laugh at him, saying,
7“See the man who would not make
God his refuge,
but #See Ps. 49:6trusted in the abundance of his riches
and sought refuge in his own destruction!”#52:7 Or in his work of destruction
8But I am like #Jer. 11:16; [Ps. 1:3; 37:35; 92:12, 13; 128:3; 144:12; Hos. 14:6]a green olive tree
in the house of God.
I trust in the steadfast love of God
forever and ever.
9I will thank you forever,
because you have done it.
I will wait for your name, #Ps. 54:6 for it is good,
in the presence of the #See Ps. 50:5godly.

Psalms 52
52
For the Chief Musician. A contemplation by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, “David has come to Ahimelech’s house.”
1Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man?
God’s loving kindness endures continually.
2Your tongue plots destruction,
like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
3You love evil more than good,
lying rather than speaking the truth. Selah.
4You love all devouring words,
you deceitful tongue.
5God will likewise destroy you forever.
He will take you up, and pluck you out of your tent,
and root you out of the land of the living. Selah.
6The righteous also will see it, and fear,
and laugh at him, saying,
7“Behold, this is the man who didn’t make God his strength,
but trusted in the abundance of his riches,
and strengthened himself in his wickedness.”
8But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in God’s house.
I trust in God’s loving kindness forever and ever.
9I will give you thanks forever, because you have done it.
I will hope in your name, for it is good,
in the presence of your saints.
