Psalm 45
45
Your Throne, O God, Is Forever
To the choirmaster: according to Lilies. A Maskil#45:1 Probably a musical or liturgical term of #Ps. 42, titlethe Sons of Korah; a love song.
1My heart overflows with a pleasing theme;
I address my verses to the king;
my tongue is like the pen of #[Ezra 7:6]a ready scribe.
2You are #[Isa. 33:17] the most handsome of the sons of men;
# [Luke 4:22]; See Isa. 61:1-3 grace is poured upon your lips;
therefore God has blessed you forever.
3 #
Ex. 32:27 Gird your #[Isa. 49:2; Heb. 4:12; Rev. 1:16; 19:15] sword on your thigh, O #[Ps. 24:8; Isa. 9:6] mighty one,
in #Ps. 21:5; 96:6, 7your splendor and majesty!
4In your majesty #[Rev. 16:2] ride out victoriously
for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness;
let your right hand teach you #See Ps. 65:5awesome deeds!
5Your arrows are sharp
in the heart of the king’s enemies;
the peoples fall under you.
6 #
Ps. 93:2; 110:2; Cited Heb. 1:8, 9 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.
The #[Ps. 67:4; 96:10]scepter of your kingdom is a scepter of uprightness;
7 # See Ps. 11:7 you have loved righteousness and hated wickedness.
Therefore #Isa. 61:1 God, your God, has #Ps. 2:2; 1 Kgs. 1:39; [Acts 10:38] anointed you
with the oil of #[Ps. 21:6] gladness #[1 Kgs. 3:13]beyond your companions;
8your robes are all fragrant with #John 19:39; [Matt. 2:11] myrrh and aloes and cassia.
From ivory palaces #Ps. 150:4stringed instruments make you glad;
9daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor;
# [1 Kgs. 2:19; Neh. 2:6] at your right hand stands the queen in #See Job 28:16gold of Ophir.
10Hear, O daughter, and consider, and incline your ear:
forget your people and your father’s house,
11and the king will desire your beauty.
Since he is your #Isa. 54:5 lord, #Ps. 95:6bow to him.
12The people#45:12 Hebrew daughter of Tyre will #[Job 11:19] seek your favor with #Ps. 96:8 gifts,
#

13All glorious is #[Rev. 19:7, 8]the princess in her chamber, with robes interwoven with gold.
14 # [Judg. 5:30; Ezek. 16:18; 26:16] In many-colored robes #[Song 1:4]she is led to the king,
with her virgin companions following behind her.
15With joy and gladness they are led along
as they enter the palace of the king.
16In place of your fathers shall be your sons;
you will make them #1 Pet. 2:9; Rev. 1:6; 5:10; 20:6princes in all the earth.
17 # [Mal. 1:11] I will cause your name to be remembered in all generations;
therefore nations will praise you forever and ever.

Psalms 45
45
(A special psalm by the clan of Korah and for the music leader. To the tune “Lilies.” A love song.)
For a Royal Wedding
1My thoughts are filled
with beautiful words
for the king,
and I will use my voice
as a writer would use
pen and ink.
2No one is as handsome as you!
Your words are always kind.
That is why God
will always bless you.
3Mighty king, glorious ruler,
strap on your sword
4and ride out in splendor!
Win victories for truth
and mercy and justice.
Do fearsome things
with your powerful arm.
5Send your sharp arrows
through enemy hearts
and make all nations fall
at your feet.
6 #
He 1.8,9. You are God, and you will rule
forever as king.#45.6 You … king: Or “God has made you king, and you will rule forever.”
Your royal power
brings about justice.
7You love justice and hate evil.
And so, your God chose you
and made you happier
than any of your friends.
8The sweet aroma of the spices
myrrh, aloes, and cassia
covers your royal robes.
You enjoy the music of harps
in palaces decorated
with ivory.
9Daughters of kings are here,
and your bride stands
at your right side,
wearing a wedding gown
trimmed with pure gold.#45.9 trimmed with pure gold: Hebrew has “with gold from Ophir,” which may have been in Africa or India. Gold from there was considered the very best.
10Bride of the king,
listen carefully to me.
Forget your own people
and your father's family. 11The king adores you.
He is your master,
so do what he desires.
12All of the richest people
from the city of Tyre
will try to influence you
13with precious treasures.
Your bride, my king,
has inward beauty,#45.13 has inward beauty: Or “is dressed in her room.”
and her wedding gown is woven
with threads of gold.
14Wearing the finest garments,
she is brought to you,
followed by her young friends,
the bridesmaids.
15Everyone is excited,
as they follow you
to the royal palace.
16Your sons and your grandsons
will also be kings
as your ancestors were.
You will make them rulers
everywhere on earth.
17I will make your name famous
from now on,
and you will be praised
forever and ever.
