Psalm 20
20
Trust in the Name of the Lord Our God
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
1May the Lord #[Gen. 35:3] answer you in the day of trouble!
May #Prov. 18:10 the name of the God of Jacob #Ps. 59:1; 69:29protect you!
2May he send you help from #Ps. 73:17; 2 Chr. 20:8 the sanctuary
and give you support from #Ps. 128:5Zion!
3May he #[Acts 10:4]remember all your offerings
and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah
4May he #Ps. 21:2grant you your heart’s desire
and fulfill all your plans!
5May we shout for joy over #Ps. 9:14 your salvation,
and in the name of our God set up our #Ps. 60:4; Song 6:4, 10banners!
May the Lord fulfill all your petitions!
6Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed;
he will answer him from his holy heaven
with #[Ps. 28:8]the saving might of his right hand.
7Some trust in #Isa. 31:1; 36:9 chariots and some in #Prov. 21:31 horses,
# [1 Sam. 17:45; 2 Chr. 32:8] but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
8They collapse and fall,
but we rise and stand upright.
9O Lord, save #Ps. 48:2the king!
May he answer us when we call.

Psalms 20
20
(A psalm by David for the music leader.)
A Prayer for Victory
1I pray that the Lord
will listen when you
are in trouble,
and that the God of Jacob
will keep you safe.
2May the Lord send help
from his temple
and come to your rescue
from Mount Zion.
3May he remember your gifts
and be pleased
with what you bring.
4May God do what you want most
and let all go well for you.
5Then you will win victories,
and we will celebrate,
while raising our banners
in the name of our God.
May the Lord answer
all your prayers!
6I am certain, Lord,
that you will help
your chosen king.
You will answer my prayers
from your holy place
in heaven,
and you will save me
with your mighty arm.
7Some people trust the power
of chariots or horses,
but we trust you, Lord God.
8Others will stumble and fall,
but we will be strong
and stand firm.
9Give the king victory, Lord,
and answer our prayers.#20.9 victory … prayers: Or “victory. He (God or the king) answers us.”
