Psalm 142
142
You Are My Refuge
A Maskil#142:1 Probably a musical or liturgical term of David, when he was in #Ps. 57, titlethe cave. A Prayer.
1With my voice I #Ps. 3:4 cry out to the Lord;
with my voice I #Ps. 30:8plead for mercy to the Lord.
2I #[Isa. 26:16]; See Ps. 102, titlepour out my complaint before him;
I tell my trouble before him.
3When my spirit #See Ps. 77:3 faints within me,
you know my way!
In the path where I walk
they have #Ps. 140:5hidden a trap for me.
4 #
Ps. 69:20 Look to the #Ps. 16:8 right and see:
# [Ps. 31:11] there is none who takes notice of me;
#
Job 11:20; Jer. 25:35 no refuge remains to me;
no one cares for my soul.
5I cry to you, O Lord;
I say, “You are my #See Ps. 14:6 refuge,
my #Ps. 16:5 portion in #Ps. 27:13the land of the living.”
6 #
Ps. 17:1 Attend to my cry,
for #Ps. 79:8 I am brought very low!
Deliver me from my persecutors,
#
Ps. 18:17
for they are too strong for me!
7 #
Isa. 42:7; [Ps. 143:11] Bring me out of prison,
that I may give thanks to your name!
The righteous will surround me,
for you will #Ps. 13:6deal bountifully with me.

Psalms 142
142
(A special psalm and a prayer by David when he was in the cave.)
A Prayer for Help
1 #
1 S 22.1; 24.3. I pray to you, Lord.
I beg for mercy.
2I tell you all my worries
and my troubles,
3and whenever I feel low,
you are there to guide me.
A trap has been hidden
along my pathway.
4Even if you look,
you won't see anyone
who cares enough
to walk beside me.
There is no place to hide,
and no one who really cares.
5I pray to you, Lord!
You are my place of safety,
and you are my choice
in the land of the living.
Please answer my prayer.
I am completely helpless.
6Help! They are chasing me,
and they are too strong.
7Rescue me from this prison,
so I can praise your name.
And when your people notice
your wonderful kindness to me,
they will rush to my side.
