Psalm 127
127
Unless the Lord Builds the House
A Song of #[See Ps. 120, title]Ascents. Of Solomon.
1Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Unless the Lord #See Ps. 121:4watches over the city,
the watchman stays awake in vain.
2It is in vain that you rise up early
and go late to rest,
eating the bread of anxious #Gen. 3:17, 19 toil;
for he gives to his #Ps. 60:5 beloved #[Mark 4:26, 27]sleep.
3Behold, #[Gen. 33:5] children are a heritage from the Lord,
#
Deut. 28:4; [Ps. 132:11] the fruit of the womb a reward.
4Like arrows in the hand of #Ps. 120:4a warrior
are the children#127:4 Or sons of one’s youth.
5Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies #See Job 5:4in the gate.#127:5 Or They shall not be put to shame when they speak with their enemies in the gate

Tehillim (Psa) 127
127
1A song of ascents. By Shlomo:
Unless Adonai builds the house,
its builders work in vain.
Unless Adonai guards the city,
the guard keeps watch in vain.
2In vain do you get up early
and put off going to bed,
working hard to earn a living;
for he provides for his beloved,
even when they sleep.
3Children too are a gift from Adonai;
the fruit of the womb is a reward.
4The children born when one is young.
are like arrows in the hand of a warrior.
5How blessed is the man
who has filled his quiver with them;
he will not have to be embarrassed
when contending with foes at the city gate.
