A Final Plague Threatened
1The Lord said to Moses, “Yet #[ch. 4:23] one plague more I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. #ch. 12:31, 33, 39When he lets you go, he will drive you away completely. 2Speak now in the hearing of the people, that #ch. 3:22; 12:35they ask, every man of his neighbor and every woman of her neighbor, for silver and gold jewelry.” 3#ch. 3:21; 12:36And the Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people.
4So Moses said, “Thus says the Lord: #ch. 12:29; [Job 34:20; Amos 4:10]‘About midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt, 5and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the firstborn of the slave girl who is #Matt. 24:41; Luke 17:35behind the handmill, and all the firstborn of the cattle. 6#ch. 12:30; [Amos 5:16, 17]There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again. 7But not a dog shall growl #[ch. 8:22; 9:4] against any of the people of Israel, either man or beast, that you may know that the Lord #ch. 9:4makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.’ 8And #ch. 12:33all these your servants shall come down to me and bow down to me, saying, ‘Get out, you and all the people who follow you.’ And after that I will go out.” And he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger. 9Then the Lord said to Moses, #ch. 3:19; 7:4; 10:1“Pharaoh will not listen to you, that #ch. 7:3my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”
10Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, and the Lord #See ch. 4:21hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he did not let the people of Israel go out of his land.

Final Plague: Death
1Now Adonai had said to Moses, “I will bring one more plague upon Pharaoh and on Egypt. After that, he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will surely thrust you out altogether from here.
2Speak now into the ears of the people, and let every man ask from his neighbor and every woman from her neighbor for articles of silver and gold.”
3Adonai gave the people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians. Indeed, the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the eyes of Pharaoh’s servants and in the eyes of the people.
4So Moses said, “This is what Adonai says: At around midnight I will go out into the midst of Egypt,
5and all the firstborn in the land of Egypt will die—from the firstborn of Pharaoh sitting on his throne to the firstborn of the maidservant behind the mill, along with all the firstborn cattle.
6There will be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, the likes of which has never been before nor will ever be again.
7But not so much as a dog will growl against any of Bnei-Yisrael, neither man nor beast—so that you may know that Adonai makes a distinction between the Egyptians and Israel.
8All these servants of yours will come down to me and bow down to me, saying, ‘Get out, you and all the people who follow you!’ After that, I will go.” Then he went out from Pharaoh hot with anger.
9Adonai had said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not listen to you, so that My wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt.”
10So Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh, yet Adonai hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so he did not let Bnei-Yisrael go out of his land.
