1 # [ch. 1:21]; See ch. 6:28 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a word was revealed to Daniel, #See ch. 1:7 who was named Belteshazzar. And #[ch. 8:26] the word was true, and it was a great conflict.#10:1 Or and it was about a great conflict And #See ch. 1:17he understood the word and #See ch. 1:17had understanding of the vision.
2In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for #[ver. 13]three weeks. 3I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I #[Amos 6:6; Matt. 6:17] anoint myself at all, for #[See ver. 2 above]the full three weeks. 4On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing #[ch. 12:5] on the bank of the great river (#Gen. 2:14that is, the Tigris) 5#[Josh. 5:13] I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, #Ezek. 9:2 a man clothed in linen, #[Rev. 1:13; 15:6] with a belt of fine #Jer. 10:9gold from Uphaz around his waist. 6His body was like #[Ezek. 1:16; 10:9] beryl, his face #Ezek. 1:14; Matt. 28:3 like the appearance of lightning, #Rev. 1:14 his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and #Rev. 1:15legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and #Rev. 1:15the sound of his words like the sound of a multitude. 7#[Acts 9:7]And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves. 8So I was left alone and saw this great vision, and #[ch. 7:28] no strength was left in me. My radiant appearance was fearfully changed,#10:8 Hebrew My splendor was changed to ruin #ver. 16and I retained no strength. 9Then I heard the sound of his words, #ch. 8:18and as I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in deep sleep #ch. 8:18with my face to the ground.
10And behold, #See Ezek. 2:9a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. 11And he said to me, “O Daniel, #ver. 19; ch. 9:23 man greatly loved, #See ch. 1:17 understand the words that I speak to you, and #Ezek. 2:1 stand upright, for #[Heb. 1:14]now I have been sent to you.” And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. 12Then he said to me, #ver. 19; [Judg. 6:23; Rev. 1:17] “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you #[ch. 9:3] set your heart to understand and #[ch. 9:3] humbled yourself before your God, #[Acts 10:4] your words have been heard, #[ch. 9:23]and I have come because of your words. 13#ver. 20 The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me #[ver. 2, 3] twenty-one days, but #ver. 21; ch. 12:1; Jude 9; Rev. 12:7Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia, 14#[See ver. 12 above] and came to make you understand what is to happen to your people #ch. 2:28 in the latter days. For #ch. 8:26; [Hab. 2:3]the vision is for days yet to come.”
15When he had spoken to me according to these words, #ver. 9; ch. 8:18 I turned my face toward the ground #Ps. 39:2, 9and was mute. 16And behold, #See ch. 8:15 one in the likeness of the children of man #Isa. 6:7 touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke. I said to him who stood before me, “O my lord, by reason of the vision pains have come upon me, and #ver. 8I retain no strength. 17How can my lord’s servant talk with my lord? For now no strength remains in me, and no breath is left in me.”
18Again #[See ver. 16 above] one having the appearance of a man #[See ver. 16 above]touched me and strengthened me. 19And he said, #ver. 11; ch. 9:23 “O man greatly loved, #See ver. 12fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage.” And as he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.” 20Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? But now I will return to fight against the #ver. 13 prince of Persia; and when I go out, behold, the prince of #ch. 8:21Greece will come. 21But I will tell you #ch. 12:1, 4; [Ex. 32:32] what is inscribed in the book of truth: there is none who contends by my side against these except #See ver. 13Michael, your prince.

Daniel 10
10
1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a message was revealed to Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the message was true, even a great warfare. He understood the message, and had understanding of the vision.
2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three whole weeks. 3I ate no pleasant food. No meat or wine came into my mouth. I didn’t anoint myself at all, until three whole weeks were fulfilled.
4 In the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel,#10:4 or, Tigris River 5I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, there was a man clothed in linen, whose waist was adorned with pure gold of Uphaz. 6His body also was like beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as flaming torches. His arms and his feet were like burnished bronze. The voice of his words was like the voice of a multitude.
7 I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me didn’t see the vision, but a great quaking fell on them, and they fled to hide themselves. 8So I was left alone and saw this great vision. No strength remained in me; for my face grew deathly pale, and I retained no strength. 9Yet I heard the voice of his words. When I heard the voice of his words, then I fell into a deep sleep on my face, with my face towards the ground.
10 Behold, a hand touched me, which set me on my knees and on the palms of my hands. 11He said to me, “Daniel, you greatly beloved man, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for I have been sent to you, now.” When he had spoken this word to me, I stood trembling.
12 Then he said to me, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel; for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard. I have come for your words’ sake. 13But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; but, behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me because I remained there with the kings of Persia. 14Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision is yet for many days.”
15 When he had spoken these words to me, I set my face towards the ground and was mute. 16Behold, one in the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth, and spoke and said to him who stood before me, “My lord, by reason of the vision my sorrows have overtaken me, and I retain no strength. 17For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? For as for me, immediately there remained no strength in me. There was no breath left in me.”
18 Then one like the appearance of a man touched me again, and he strengthened me. 19He said, “Greatly beloved man, don’t be afraid. Peace be to you. Be strong. Yes, be strong.”
When he spoke to me, I was strengthened, and said, “Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.”
20 Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Now I will return to fight with the prince of Persia. When I go out, behold, the prince of Greece will come. 21But I will tell you that which is inscribed in the writing of truth. There is no one who holds with me against these but Michael your prince.
