The Day of the Lord Will Come
1This is now the second letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them #ch. 1:13I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder, 2#Jude 17 that you should remember the predictions of #Luke 1:70; Acts 3:21the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles, 3knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come #Jude 18 in the last days with scoffing, #ch. 2:10following their own sinful desires. 4#Isa. 5:19; Jer. 17:15; Ezek. 11:3; 12:22, 27; Mal. 2:17 They will say, “Where is the promise of #See 1 Thess. 2:19his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth #Ps. 24:2; 136:6 was formed out of water and through water #Gen. 1:6, 9; Ps. 33:6; [Heb. 11:3]by the word of God, 6and that by means of these the world that then existed #ch. 2:5 was deluged with water and #Gen. 7:11, 21perished. 7But by the same word #ver. 10, 12 the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and #[2 Thess. 1:9]destruction of the ungodly.
8But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and #Ps. 90:4a thousand years as one day. 9#Hab. 2:3; Heb. 10:37 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise #[Eccles. 8:11; Rev. 2:21] as some count slowness, but #Isa. 30:18; Luke 18:7 is patient toward you,#3:9 Some manuscripts on your account #Ezek. 18:23, 32; 33:11 not wishing that any should perish, but #1 Tim. 2:4that all should reach repentance. 10But #See Matt. 24:43 the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then #[Rev. 6:14; 20:11; 21:1]; See Matt. 24:35 the heavens will pass away with a roar, and #Isa. 34:4; [Isa. 24:19; Mic. 1:4; Nah. 1:5]the heavenly bodies#3:10 Or elements; also verse 12 will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.#3:10 Greek found; some manuscripts will be burned up
11Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, #1 Pet. 1:15what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness, 12#[Luke 12:36; 1 Cor. 1:7; 1 Thess. 1:10; Titus 2:13; Jude 21] waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and #See ver. 10the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn! 13But according to his promise we are waiting for #Isa. 65:17; 66:22; Rev. 21:1 new heavens and a new earth #Isa. 60:21; Rev. 21:27in which righteousness dwells.
Final Words

1 Cor. 15:58 Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him #James 1:27 without spot or #Phil. 2:15; [Phil. 1:10; 1 Thess. 3:13] blemish, and #[1 Thess. 5:23]at peace. 15And count #See ver. 9 the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as #[Acts 15:25] our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you #1 Cor. 3:10according to the wisdom given him, 16as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. #[Heb. 5:11] There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, #[Isa. 28:13]as they do the other Scriptures. 17You therefore, beloved, #ch. 1:12; [Mark 13:23] knowing this beforehand, #ch. 1:10; 1 Cor. 10:12take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18But #ch. 1:5; Eph. 4:15; Col. 1:10; 2:19; 1 Pet. 2:2 grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. #See Rom. 11:36 To him be the glory both now and to the day of #[ver. 8]eternity. Amen.

The Promise of the Lord's Coming
1This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2that ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles#3.2 of us the apostles. Some early manuscripts have of your apostles. of the Lord and Saviour: 3#Jude 18. knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5#Gen 1.6-8. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6#Gen 7.11. whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7but the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Ps 90.4. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10#Matt 24.43; Luke 12.39; 1 Thes 5.2; Rev 16.15. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.#3.10 shall be burned up. Some early manuscripts have shall be found.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13#Isa 65.17; 66.22; Rev 21.1. Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15And account that the long-suffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other Scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness. 18But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
