1 # ch. 23:2 David assembled at Jerusalem all the officials of Israel, the #See ch. 27:16-22 officials of the tribes, the officers of the divisions that served the king, the #See ch. 27:1-15 commanders of thousands, the commanders of hundreds, the #See ch. 27:25-31 stewards of all the property and livestock of the king and his sons, together with the palace officials, the #See ch. 11:10-47mighty men and all the seasoned warriors. 2Then King David rose to his feet and said: “Hear me, my brothers and my people. #See ch. 22:7 I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord and for the #Ps. 99:5; 132:7; Isa. 66:1; Lam. 2:1; [Ps. 110:1]footstool of our God, and I made preparations for building. 3But God said to me, #See 2 Sam. 7:5, 13‘You may not build a house for my name, for you are a man of war and have shed blood.’ 4Yet the Lord God of Israel #1 Sam. 16:12, 13 chose me from all my father’s house to be king over Israel #ch. 17:23, 27 forever. #ch. 5:2; Gen. 49:8; Ps. 78:68 For he chose Judah as leader, and in the house of Judah my father’s #1 Sam. 16:1house, and among my father’s sons he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel. 5And of #See ch. 3:1-9; 14:3-7 all my sons (for the Lord has given me many sons) he #ch. 22:9; 23:1has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel. 6He said to me, ‘It is #See 2 Sam. 7:13, 14Solomon your son who shall build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father. 7I will establish his kingdom #[See ver. 4 above] forever #[ch. 22:13]if he continues strong in keeping my commandments and my rules, as he is today.’ 8Now therefore in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the Lord, and in the hearing of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of the Lord your God, that you may possess this good land and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you forever.
David’s Charge to Solomon
9“And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a #[1 Kgs. 8:61] whole heart and with a willing mind, #See 1 Sam. 16:7 for the Lord searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought. #See 2 Chr. 15:2If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever. 10Be careful now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary; #ver. 20; Ezra 10:4; Hag. 2:4be strong and do it.”
11Then David gave Solomon his son the #ver. 19; See Ex. 25:40 plan of the #1 Kgs. 6:3; 2 Chr. 3:4 vestibule of the temple,#28:11 Hebrew lacks of the temple and of its houses, its treasuries, its upper rooms, and its inner chambers, and of the room for the #Ex. 25:17mercy seat; 12and the plan of all that he had in mind for the courts of the house of the Lord, all the surrounding chambers, #See ch. 26:20the treasuries of the house of God, and the treasuries for dedicated gifts; 13for the #ch. 24:1 divisions of the priests and of the #ch. 23:6Levites, and all the work of the service in the house of the Lord; for all the vessels for the service in the house of the Lord, 14the weight of gold for all golden vessels for each service, the weight of silver vessels for each service, 15the weight of the golden #See Ex. 25:31-37lampstands and their lamps, the weight of gold for each lampstand and its lamps, the weight of silver for a lampstand and its lamps, according to the use of each lampstand in the service, 16the weight of gold for each table for the showbread, the silver for the silver tables, 17and pure gold for the forks, the basins and the cups; for the golden bowls and the weight of each; for the silver bowls and the weight of each; 18for the #See Ex. 30:1 altar of incense made of refined gold, and its weight; also his plan for the golden chariot of the #See Ex. 25:18-22; 1 Kgs. 6:23-28cherubim that spread their wings and covered the ark of the covenant of the Lord. 19“All this he made clear to me in writing from the hand of the Lord, #ver. 11, 12; Ex. 25:40all the work to be done according to the plan.”
20Then David said to Solomon his son, #See ch. 22:13; Josh. 1:5“Be strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for the Lord God, even my God, is with you. He will not leave you or forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the Lord is finished. 21And behold the #ver. 13; See ch. 24-26 divisions of the priests and the Levites for all the service of the house of God; and with you in all the work will be #[Ex. 35:25, 26; 36:1, 2]every willing man who has skill for any kind of service; also the officers and all the people will be wholly at your command.”

1 Paralipomenon 28
28
1And David assembled all the chief men of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies, who waited on the king: and the captains over thousands, and over hundreds: and them who had the charge over the substance and possessions of the king: and his sons with the officers of the court, and the men of power: and all the bravest of the army at Jerusalem.
2And the king rising up and standing said: Hear me, my brethren and my people. I had a thought to have built a house, in which the ark of the Lord and the footstool of our God might rest: and I prepared all things for the building.
3And God said to me: Thou shalt not build a house to my name; because thou art a man of war, and hast shed blood.
4But the Lord God of Israel chose me of all the house of my father, to be king over Israel for ever. For of Juda he chose the princes: and of the house of Juda, my father's house: and among the sons of my father, it pleased him to choose me king over all Israel.
5And among my sons (for the Lord hath given me many sons) he hath chosen Solomon my son, to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.
6And he said to me: Solomon thy son shall build my house and my courts. For I have chosen him to be my son: and I will be a father to him.
7And I will establish his kingdom for ever, if he continue to keep my commandments, and my judgments, as at this day.
8Now then before all the assembly of Israel, in the hearing of our God, keep ye, and seek all the commandments of the Lord our God: that you may possess the good land; and may leave it to your children after you for ever.
9And thou, my son Solomon, know the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart, and a willing mind. For the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the thoughts of minds. If thou seek him, thou shalt find him: but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever.
10Now therefore seeing the Lord hath chosen thee to build the house of the sanctuary, take courage, and do it.
11And David gave to Solomon his son a description of the porch, and of the temple, and of the treasures, and of the upper floor, and of the inner chambers, and of the house for the mercy seat:
12As also of all the courts, which he had in his thought, and of the chambers round about, for the treasures of the house of the Lord, and for the treasures of the consecrated things:
13And of the divisions of the priests and of the Levites, for all the works of the house of the Lord, and for all the vessels of the service of the temple of the Lord.
14Gold by weight for every vessel for the ministry. And silver by weight according to the diversity of the vessels and uses.
15He gave also gold for the golden candlesticks, and their lamps, according to the dimensions of every candlestick, and the lamps thereof. In like manner also he gave silver by weight for the silver candlesticks, and for their lamps according to the diversity of the dimensions of them.
16He gave also gold for the tables of proposition, according to the diversity of the tables: in like manner also silver for other tables of silver.
17For fleshhooks also, and bowls, and censers of fine gold, and for little lions of gold, according to the measure he gave by weight for every lion. In like manner also for lions of silver he set aside a different weight of silver.
18And for the altar of incense he gave the purest gold: and to make the likeness of the chariot of the cherubims spreading their wings, and covering the ark of the covenant of the Lord.
19All these things, said he, came to me written by the hand of the Lord, that I might understand all the works of the pattern.
20And David said to Solomon his son: Act like a man, and take courage, and do. Fear not, and be not dismayed: for the Lord my God will be with thee, and will not leave thee, nor forsake thee, till thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.
21Behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites, for every ministry of the house of the Lord, stand by thee, and are ready: and both the princes, and the people know how to execute all thy commandments.
