St Matthew 7
7
1JUDGE not, that you may not be judged,
2For with what judgment you judge, you shall be judged: and with what measure you mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3Any why seest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye; and seest not the beam that is in thy own eye?
4Or how sayest thou to thy brother: Let me cast the mote out of thy eye; and behold a beam is in thy own eye?
5Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam in thy own eye, and then shalt thou see to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
6Give not that which is holy to dogs; neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turning upon you, they tear you.
7Ask, and it shall be given you: seek, and you shall find: knock, and it shall be opened to you.
8For every one that asketh, receiveth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.
9Or what man is there among you, of whom if his son shall ask bread, will he reach him a stone?
10Or if he shall ask him a fish, will he reach him a serpent?
11If you then being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children: how much more will your Father who is in heaven, give good things to them that ask him?
12All things therefore whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you also to them. For this is the law and the prophets.
13Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat.
14How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it!
15Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
16By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
17Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit.
19Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire.
20Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them.
21Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: but he that doth the will of my Father who is in heaven, he shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.
22Many will say to me in that day: Lord, Lord, have not we prophesied in thy name, and cast out devils in thy name, and done many miracles in thy name?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity.
24Every one therefore that heareth these my words, and doth them, shall be likened to a wise man that built his house upon a rock,
25And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not, for it was founded on a rock.
26And every one that heareth these my words, and doth them not, shall be like a foolish man that built his house upon the sand,
27And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall thereof.
28And it came to pass when Jesus had fully ended these words, the people were in admiration at his doctrine.
29For he was teaching them as one having power, and not as the scribes and Pharisees.

Judging Others
1 # For ver. 1-5, see Luke 6:37, 38, 41, 42; [Rom. 14:13; 1 Cor. 4:5; James 5:9] “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2#Rom. 2:1, 3; 14:10; James 2:13; 4:11, 12 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and #Mark 4:24; [Judg. 1:7]with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but #[John 8:7-9]do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
6 # ch. 15:26; [Prov. 9:7, 8; 23:9] “Do not give # [Phil. 3:2; Rev. 22:15] dogs what is holy, and do not throw your # ch. 13:46 pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.
Ask, and It Will Be Given
7 # For ver. 7-11, see Luke 11:9-13 “Ask, # ch. 18:19; 21:22; Mark 11:24; John 14:13; 15:7, 16; 16:23, 24; James 1:5, 6, 17; 1 John 3:22; 5:14, 15 and it will be given to you; #
1 Chr. 28:9; 2 Chr. 15:2; Prov. 8:17; Jer. 29:13; [Isa. 55:6] seek, and you will find; # [Rev. 3:20] knock, and it will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9Or which one of you, if his son asks him for #ch. 4:3bread, will give him #ch. 4:3a stone? 10Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11If you then, #ch. 12:34; Gen. 6:5; 8:21 who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will #[See ver. 7 above]your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
The Golden Rule
12 “So #
Luke 6:31 whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is # See ch. 22:40 the Law and the Prophets.
13 #
Luke 13:24
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy # 7:13 Some manuscripts For the way is wide and easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14For the gate is narrow and #Ps. 16:11; [ch. 18:8; John 14:6] the way is hard that leads to life, and #[Luke 13:23]those who find it are few.
A Tree and Its Fruit
15 # ch. 24:11, 24; Deut. 13:1-3; Jer. 14:14; 23:16; Mark 13:22; Luke 6:26; Acts 13:6; 2 Pet. 2:1; 1 John 4:1 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are #
Ezek. 22:27; Acts 20:29; [Mic. 3:5; John 10:12] ravenous wolves. 16You will recognize them #Luke 6:43, 44; James 2:18by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17So, #ch. 12:33-35every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. 18A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. 19#See ch. 3:10Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20Thus you will recognize them #[See ver. 16 above]by their fruits.
I Never Knew You
21 #
Luke 6:46; Rom. 2:13; James 1:22 “Not everyone who # [Hos. 8:2] says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will # [John 3:3, 5] enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who # ch. 12:50 does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22#ch. 25:11, 12; Luke 13:25-27 On that day #Mal. 3:17, 18 many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not #[Num. 24:4; John 11:51; 1 Cor. 13:2] prophesy in your name, and cast out demons #See Mark 9:38in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23#[See ver. 22 above] And then will I declare to them, ‘I #ch. 10:33; [Ps. 101:4] never knew you; #ch. 25:41; Ps. 6:8 depart from me, #ch. 13:41; Ps. 5:5you workers of lawlessness.’
Build Your House on the Rock
24 # For ver. 24-27, see Luke 6:47-49 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like # ch. 25:2; [Ezek. 13:10-14] a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like #[See ver. 24 above]a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
The Authority of Jesus
28And when Jesus finished these sayings, #ch. 13:54; 22:33; Mark 1:22; 6:2; 11:18; Luke 4:32; [Acts 13:12]the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29#John 7:46for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
