2 Kings 7
7
1And it came to pass when the king sat in his house, and the Lord had given him rest on every side from all his enemies,
2He said to Nathan the prophet: Dost thou see that I dwell in a house of cedar, and the ark of God is lodged within skins?
3And Nathan said to the king: Go, do all that is in thy heart; because the Lord is with thee.
4But it came to pass that night, that the word of the Lord came to Nathan, saying:
5Go, and say to my servant David: Thus saith the Lord: Shalt thou build me a house to dwell in?
6Whereas I have not dwelt in a house from the day that I brought the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt even to this day: but have walked in a tabernacle, and in a tent.
7In all the places that I have gone through with all the children of Israel, did ever I speak a word to any one of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying: Why have you not built me a house of cedar?
8And now thus shalt thou speak to my servant David: Thus saith the Lord of hosts: I took thee out of the pastures from following the sheep to be ruler over my people Israel.
9And I have been with thee wheresoever thou hast walked, and have slain all thy enemies from before thy face. And I have made thee a great man, like unto the name of the great ones that are on the earth.
10And I will appoint a place for my people Israel; and I will plant them; and they shall dwell therein, and shall be disturbed no more. Neither shall the children of iniquity afflict them any more as they did before,
11From the day that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give thee rest from all thy enemies. And the Lord foretelleth to thee, that the Lord will make thee a house.
12And when thy days shall be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels: and I will establish his kingdom.
13He shall build a house to my name: and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.
14I will be to him a father: and he shall be to me a son. And if he commit any iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men.
15But my mercy I will not take away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before my face.
16And thy house shall be faithful, and thy kingdom for ever before thy face: and thy throne shall be firm for ever.
17According to all these words and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to David.
18And David went in, and sat before the Lord, and said: Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far?
19But yet this hath seemed little in thy sight, O Lord God, unless thou didst also speak of the house of thy servant for a long time to come: for this is the law of Adam, O Lord God.
20And what can David say more unto thee? For thou knowest thy servant, O Lord God.
21For thy word's sake, and according to thy own heart thou hast done all these great things, so that thou wouldst make it known to thy servant.
22Therefore thou art magnified, O Lord God, because there is none like to thee: neither is there any God besides thee, in all the things that we have heard with our ears.
23And what nation is there upon earth, as thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for them great and terrible things, upon the earth, before the face of thy people, whom thou redeemedst to thyself out of Egypt, from the nations and their gods?
24For thou hast confirmed to thyself thy people Israel to be an everlasting people: and thou, O Lord God, art become their God.
25And now, O Lord God, raise up for ever the word that thou hast spoken, concerning thy servant and concerning his house: and do as thou hast spoken,
26That thy name may be magnified for ever, and it may be said: The Lord of hosts is God over Israel. And the house of thy servant David shall be established before the Lord.
27Because thou, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to the ear of thy servant, saying: I will build thee a house. Therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer to thee.
28And now, O Lord God, thou art God, and thy words shall be true: for thou hast spoken to thy servant these good things.
29And now begin, and bless the house of thy servant, that it may endure for ever before thee: because thou, O Lord God, hast spoken it, and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.

God’s Covenant with David
1Ch 17:1–15
1Now when the king settled into his house and the Lord had given him rest from all of his enemies on all sides, 2the king said to Nathan the prophet, # 2Sa 12:1 “I am dwelling in a cedar house, # 2Sa 5:11 but the ark of God is sitting in a tent.”
3Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart # 1Ki 8:17–18; 1Ch 22:7 because the Lord is with you.”
4That night the word of the Lord came to Nathan:
5Go and say to My servant David: Thus says the Lord: Do you intend to build a house for Me in which I will dwell? 6I have not dwelt in a house since the day I brought the Israelites from Egypt until this day. # 1Ki 8:16 I have been moving about with a tent as My dwelling. # Ex 40:18–19 7Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, # Lev 26:11–12; 2Sa 5:2 saying, “Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?”
8Now therefore, you will say to My servant David: Thus says the Lord of Hosts: I took you from the pasture, from following after the sheep, to be ruler over My people Israel. # 1Sa 16:11–12; 2Sa 6:21 9I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all of your enemies before you. I will make your name great, # 2Sa 5:10 like the great ones across the land. # 1Ch 17:8 10Moreover, I will appoint a place for My people Israel. I will plant them, and they will dwell in that very place. They will be restless no longer, and the unjust will no longer oppress them, # Ps 89:22–23; Isa 60:18 as in former times, 11ever since the day in which I appointed judges over My people Israel. I will give you rest from all of your enemies. # 1Sa 12:9–11; 2Sa 7:1
The Lord declares to you that He will instead bring about a house for you. 12When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, # Dt 31:16 I will raise up after you an offspring from your body, # 1Ki 2:1 and I will establish his rule. # 1Ki 8:20 13He will build a house for My name, # 1Ki 5:5; 8:19 and I will establish his royal throne forever. 14I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me. # 1Ch 17:13; Heb 1:5 When he goes astray, I will correct him with the rod of men and afflictions of the sons of men. 15My commitment will not abandon him, as I removed it from Saul, # 1Sa 15:23, 28 whom I deposed before you. 16Your house and dominion will endure before Me forever, and your throne will be established by the Lord forever. # 2Sa 7:13; Ps 89:36–37
17So Nathan spoke to David in accordance with all of these words and the entirety of this vision.
The Prayer of David
1Ch 17:16–27
18Then King David went in and sat before the Lord. He said,
“Who am I, # Ex 3:11; 1Sa 18:18; Ps 8:4 O Lord God, and what is my house that You have brought me this far? 19Yet this was comparatively insignificant in Your sight, Lord God, for You have also spoken about Your servant’s house into the distant future. # 1Ch 17:17; Isa 55:8–9 Is this Your manner with man, Lord God?
20“What more can David say to You? You know Your servant, # 1Sa 16:7; Jn 21:17 Lord God. 21Because of Your word, according to Your will, You have done all of this greatness to inform Your servant.
22“Therefore You are great, Lord God. There is none like You, and there is no God except You, # Ex 15:11; Dt 3:24 according to everything that we have heard with our ears. 23And who is like Your people, like Israel—a single nation in the land, whom God went to redeem as a people for Himself, making a name for Himself by doing great and awesome things # Dt 10:21 for Your land, before Your people whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, # Dt 9:26 a nation and its gods. 24You established Your people Israel as Your own people forever, and You, Lord, became their God. # Ge 17:7; Dt 26:18
25“Now, Lord God, confirm forever the word that You spoke regarding Your servant and his house and do as You have spoken. 26May Your name be magnified forever by saying, ‘The Lord of Hosts is God over Israel,’ and may the house of Your servant David be established before You. # 1Ch 17:23–24
27“For You, O Lord of Hosts, God of Israel, have revealed a word to Your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house.’ Therefore, Your servant has found the courage to pray this prayer to You. 28Now, Lord God, You are God, and Your words are true. # Jn 17:17 You have spoken this good message to Your servant. 29Now, be resolved and bless Your servant’s dynastic house, so that it may stand before You forever. You, Lord God, have spoken, and with Your blessing, the house of Your servant will be blessed forever.” # Nu 6:24–26; 2Sa 22:51
