2 Corinthians 1
1
1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother: to the church of God that is at Corinth, with all the saints that are in all Achaia:
2Grace unto you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort.
4Who comforteth us in all our tribulation; that we also may be able to comfort them who are in all distress, by the exhortation wherewith we also are exhorted by God.
5For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us: so also by Christ doth our comfort abound.
6Now whether we be in tribulation, it is for your exhortation and salvation: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation: or whether we be exhorted, it is for your exhortation and salvation, which worketh the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer.
7That our hope for you may be steadfast: knowing that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so shall you be also of the consolation.
8For we would not have you ignorant brethren, of our tribulation, which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure above our strength, so that we were weary even of life.
9But we had in ourselves the answer of death, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead.
10Who hath delivered and doth deliver us out of so great dangers: in whom we trust that he will yet also deliver us.
11You helping withal in prayer for us: that for this gift obtained for us, by the means of many persons, thanks may be given by many in our behalf.
12For our glory is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity of heart and sincerity of God, and not in carnal wisdom, but in the grace of God, we have conversed in this world: and more abundantly towards you.
13For we write no other things to you than what you have read and known. And I hope that you shall know unto the end:
14As also you have known us in part, that we are your glory, as you also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
15And in this confidence I had a mind to come to you before, that you might have a second grace:
16And to pass by you into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and by you to be brought on my way towards Judea.
17Whereas then I was thus minded, did I use lightness? Or, the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that there should be with me, It is, and It is not?
18But God is faithful, for our preaching which was to you, was not, It is, and It is not.
19For the Son of God, Jesus Christ who was preached among you by us, by me, and Sylvanus, and Timothy, was not, It is and It is not, but, It is, was in him.
20For all the promises of God are in him, It is; therefore also by him, amen to God, unto our glory.
21Now he that confirmeth us with you in Christ, and that hath anointed us, is God:
22Who also hath sealed us, and given the pledge of the Spirit in our hearts.
23But I call God to witness upon my soul, that to spare you, I came not any more to Corinth: not because we exercise dominion over your faith: but we are helpers of your joy: for in faith you stand.

2 Corinthians 1

Eph 1.1; Col 1.1; 2 Cor 1.19; Acts 16.1; 18.1. Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother.
To the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia:

Rom 1.7. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Eph 1.3; 1 Pet 1.3; Rom 15.5. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4#2 Cor 7.6-7,13. who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.#1.5 Or For as the sufferings of Christ abound for us, so also our comfort abounds through Christ 6If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. 7Our hope for you is unshaken; for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.
8For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of the affliction we experienced in Asia; for we were so utterly, unbearably crushed that we despaired of life itself. 9Why, we felt that we had received the sentence of death; but that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead; 10he delivered us from so deadly a peril, and he will deliver us; on him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again. 11You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us in answer to many prayers.
12For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience that we have behaved in the world, and still more toward you, with holiness and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God. 13For we write you nothing but what you can read and understand; I hope you will understand fully, 14as you have understood in part, that you can be proud of us as we can be of you, on the day of the Lord Jesus.
15Because I was sure of this, I wanted to come to you first, so that you might have a double pleasure;#1.15 Other ancient authorities read favor 16#Acts 19.21. I wanted to visit you on my way to Macedonia, and to come back to you from Macedonia and have you send me on my way to Judea. 17Was I vacillating when I wanted to do this? Do I make my plans like a worldly man, ready to say Yes and No at once? 18As surely as God is faithful, our word to you has not been Yes and No. 19#1 Thess 1.1; Acts 15.22. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we preached among you, Silvanus and Timothy and I, was not Yes and No; but in him it is always Yes. 20#1 Cor 14.16; Rev 3.14. For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why we utter the Amen through him, to the glory of God. 21But it is God who establishes us with you in Christ, and has commissioned us; 22he has put his seal upon us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
23But I call God to witness against me—it was to spare you that I refrained from coming to Corinth. 24Not that we lord it over your faith; we work with you for your joy, for you stand firm in your faith.
