2 Peter 1
1
Salutation
1Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:
2Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.
Make Your Calling and Election Sure
3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, temperance; and to temperance, patience; and to patience, godliness; 7and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, charity. 8For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11for so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
12Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. 13Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; 14knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath showed me. 15Moreover I will endeavor that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
Eyewitnesses of Christ's Glory
16For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17#Matt 17.1-5; Mark 9.2-7; Luke 9.28-35. For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 19We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts: 20knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. 21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

2 Peter 1
1
Greeting
1From Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ.
To those who received a faith equal to ours through the justice of our God and savior Jesus Christ.
2May you have more and more grace and peace through the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
Christian life in outline
3By his divine power the Lord has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of the one who called us by his own honor and glory. 4Through his honor and glory he has given us his precious and wonderful promises, that you may share the divine nature and escape from the world’s immorality that sinful craving produces.
5This is why you must make every effort to add moral excellence to your faith; and to moral excellence, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, endurance; and to endurance, godliness; 7and to godliness, affection for others; and to affection for others, love. 8If all these are yours and they are growing in you, they’ll keep you from becoming inactive and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9Whoever lacks these things is shortsighted and blind, forgetting that they were cleansed from their past sins.
10Therefore, brothers and sisters, be eager to confirm your call and election. Do this and you will never ever be lost. 11In this way you will receive a rich welcome into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Reminder of the Christian life
12So I’ll keep reminding you about these things, although you already know them and stand secure in the truth you have. 13I think it’s right that I keep stirring up your memory, as long as I’m alive. 14After all, our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I am about to depart from this life. 15I’m eager for you always to remember these things after my death.
Christ’s return is true
16We didn’t repeat crafty myths when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Quite the contrary, we witnessed his majesty with our own eyes. 17He received honor and glory from God the Father when a voice came to him from the magnificent glory, saying, “This is my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well-pleased.” 18We ourselves heard this voice from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. 19In addition, we have a most reliable prophetic word, and you would do well to pay attention to it, just as you would to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 20Most important, you must know that no prophecy of scripture represents the prophet’s own understanding of things, 21because no prophecy ever came by human will. Instead, men and women led by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
