Psalm 3
3
A Morning Prayer of Trust in God
A Psalm of David, when he fled from Ab´salom his son.#2 Sam 15.13—17.22.
1 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me!
Many are they that rise up against me.
2Many there be which say of my soul,
There is no help for him in God. Selah.
3But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me;
my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
4I cried unto the Lord with my voice,
and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
5I laid me down and slept;
I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.
6I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people,
that have set themselves against me round about.
7Arise, O Lord;
save me, O my God:
for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone;
thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
8Salvation belongeth unto the Lord:
thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.

Psalms 3
3
A psalm of David concerning the time he had to flee from his son Absalom.
1Lord, my enemies have become so many; so many are rebelling#3:1. Since David is the writer this is clearly a reference to a widespread rebellion against him as king. against me.
2So many are telling me, “God can't save you!” Selah.
3But you, Lord, are a shield protecting me. You give me victory;#3:3. Literally, “you are my glory” which makes little sense in English. you hold my head high.
4I cry out to the Lord for help, and he answers me from his holy mountain. Selah.
5I lie down to sleep, and in the morning#3:5. Implied. I wake up because the Lord takes care of me.
6I'm not afraid of tens of thousands who surround me, people who are against me.
7Stand up for me, Lord! Save me, my God! Hit all my enemies on the cheek; break the teeth of the wicked!
8Salvation belongs to you, Lord; may you be a blessing to your people. Selah.
