1 #
2 Kgs 24.1; 2 Chr 36.5-7; Dan 1.1,2. The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neri´ah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoi´akim the son of Josi´ah king of Judah, saying, 2Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch; 3Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the Lord hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest. 4Thus shalt thou say unto him, The Lord saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land. 5And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.

A Message to Baruch
1In the fourth year that Jehoiakim#45:1 the fourth year … Jehoiakim This was about 605 B.C. son of Josiah was king of Judah, Jeremiah the prophet spoke these things to Baruch son of Neriah. Baruch wrote them on a scroll. This is what Jeremiah said to Baruch: 2“This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you: 3‘Baruch, you have said, “It is very bad for me. The Lord has given me sorrow along with my pain. I am very tired. I am worn out because of my suffering. I cannot find rest.” 4Jeremiah, tell Baruch that this is what the Lord says: I will tear down what I have built, and I will pull up what I have planted. I will do that everywhere in Judah. 5Baruch, you are looking for great things for yourself. Don’t look for them, because I will make terrible things happen to all the people.’ This is what the Lord said. ‘You will have to go many places. But I will let you escape alive wherever you go.’”
