PSALM 38
A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance.
1Jehovah, rebuke me not in thy wrath; neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. 2For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand cometh down upon me. 3There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine indignation; no peace in my bones, because of my sin. 4For mine iniquities are gone over my head: as a heavy burden they are too heavy for me. 5My wounds stink, they are corrupt, because of my foolishness. 6I am depressed; I am bowed down beyond measure; I go mourning all the day. 7For my loins are full of burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh. 8I am faint and broken beyond measure; I roar by reason of the agitation of my heart. 9Lord, all my desire is before thee, and my sighing is not hid from thee. 10My heart throbbeth, my strength hath left me; and the light of mine eyes, it also is no more with me. 11My lovers and mine associates stand aloof from my stroke; and my kinsmen stand afar off.
12And they that seek after my life lay snares for me; and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all the day long. 13But I, as a deaf man, hear not; and am as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. 14Yea, I am as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs. 15For in thee, Jehovah, do I hope: thou wilt answer, O Lord my God#GodHebrew: Elohim 16For I said, Let them not rejoice over me! When my foot slipped, they magnified themselves against me. 17For I am ready to halt, and my pain is continually before me. 18For I will declare mine iniquity, I am grieved for my sin. 19But mine enemies are lively, they are strong; and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied: 20And they that render evil for good are adversaries unto me; because I pursue what is good. 21Forsake me not, Jehovah; O my God#GodHebrew: Elohim be not far from me. 22Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation.

Tehillim (Psa) 38

1A psalm of David, serving as a reminder:
2Adonai, don’t rebuke me when you are angry
or discipline me when you are enraged,
3for your arrows penetrate me deeply,
and your hand is pressing me down.
4Your indignation left no part of me intact;
my sin made my whole body sick;
5for my iniquities loom high over my head
as a heavy burden, too heavy for me.
6I have stinking, festering wounds
because of my foolishness.
7I am bent down, prostrate completely;
I go about mourning all day long.
8For my insides burn with fever,
and my whole body is sick.
9I am numb, completely crushed;
my anguished heart makes me groan aloud.
10Adonai, all my longing is known to you;
my sighing is not hidden from you.
11My heart is throbbing, my strength is gone,
and the light in my eyes has left me.
12My friends and companions shun my disease;
even the closest keep their distance.
13Those seeking my life lay snares for me,
those seeking to harm me speak of disaster
and think up deceptions all day long.
14But I’m like a deaf man — I don’t hear it;
and, like a mute, I don’t say a word.
15Yes, I’ve become like a man who doesn’t hear
and in whose mouth are no defenses.
16For it is in you, Adonai, that I hope.
You will answer, Adonai my God.
17I said, “Don’t let them gloat over me
or boast against me when my foot slips.”
18For I am about to fall,
and my pain is always with me.
19I acknowledge my guilt,
I am anxious because of my sin.
20But my enemies are alive and well,
those who wrongfully hate me increase their numbers;
21and, since they repay good with evil,
they oppose me because I pursue good.
22Don’t abandon me, Adonai!
My God, don’t be far from me!
23Come quickly to help me,
Adonai, my salvation!
