Psalms 107

FIFTH BOOK
PSALM 107
1Give ye thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; for his loving-kindness endureth for ever. 2Let the redeemed of Jehovah say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the oppressor, 3And gathered out of the countries, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the sea. 4They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way, they found no city of habitation; 5Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them: 6Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses, 7And he led them forth by a right way, that they might go to a city of habitation. 8Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men; 9For he hath satisfied the longing soul and filled the hungry soul with good.
10Such as inhabit darkness and the shadow of death, bound in affliction and iron, 11Because they had rebelled against the words of ·God#GodHebrew: El and had despised the counsel of the Most High; ... 12And he bowed down their heart with labour; they stumbled, and there was none to help: 13Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses; 14He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands in sunder. 15Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men; 16For he hath broken the gates of bronze, and cut asunder the bars of iron.
17Fools, because of their way of transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted; 18Their soul abhorreth all manner of food, and they draw near unto the gates of death: 19Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, and he saveth them out of their distresses; 20He sendeth his word, and healeth them, and delivereth them from their destructions. 21Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men, 22And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works in joyful song.
23They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters, 24These see the works of Jehovah, and his wonders in the deep. 25For he speaketh, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof: 26They mount up to the heavens, they go down to the depths; their soul is melted because of trouble; 27They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and they are at their wits' end: 28Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses; 29He maketh the storm a calm, and the waves thereof are still: 30And they rejoice because they are quiet; and he bringeth them unto their desired haven. 31Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men; 32Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the session of the elders.
33He maketh rivers into a wilderness, and water-springs into dry ground; 34A fruitful land into a plain of salt, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein. 35He maketh the wilderness into a pool of water, and the dry land into water-springs; 36And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, and they establish a city of habitation; 37And sow fields, and plant vineyards, which yield fruits of increase; 38And he blesseth them, so that they are multiplied greatly; and he suffereth not their cattle to decrease. 39And they are diminished and brought low, through oppression, adversity, and sorrow: 40He poureth contempt upon nobles, and causeth them to wander in a pathless waste; 41But he secureth the needy one on high from affliction, and maketh him families like flocks. 42The upright shall see it, and rejoice; and all unrighteousness shall stop its mouth. 43Whoso is wise, let him observe these things, and let them understand the loving-kindnesses of Jehovah.

God Saves from Many Dangers
1Thank the Lord because he is good.
His love continues forever.
2That is what the people the Lord has saved should say.
They are the ones he has saved from the enemy.
3He has gathered them from other lands,
from east and west, north and south.
4Some people had wandered in the desert lands.
They found no city to live in.
5They were hungry and thirsty.
They were discouraged.
6In their misery they cried out to the Lord.
And he saved them from their troubles.
7He led them on a straight road
to a city where they could live.
8Let them give thanks to the Lord for his love
and for the miracles he does for people.
9He satisfies the thirsty.
He fills up the hungry.
10Some sat in gloom and darkness.
They were prisoners suffering in chains.
11They had turned against the words of God.
They had refused the advice of God Most High.
12So he broke their pride by hard work.
They stumbled, and no one helped.
13In their misery they cried out to the Lord.
And he saved them from their troubles.
14He brought them out of their gloom and darkness.
He broke their chains.
15Let them give thanks to the Lord for his love
and for the miracles he does for people.
16He breaks down bronze gates.
And he cuts apart iron bars.
17Some became fools who turned against God.
They suffered for the evil they did.
18They refused to eat anything.
So they almost died.
19In their misery they cried out to the Lord.
And he saved them from their troubles.
20God gave the command and healed them.
So they were saved from dying.
21Let them give thanks to the Lord for his love
and for the miracles he does for people.
22Let them offer sacrifices to thank him.
With joy they should tell what he has done.
23Others went out to sea in ships.
They did business on the great oceans.
24They saw what the Lord could do.
They saw the miracles he did.
25He spoke, and a storm came up.
It blew up high waves.
26The ships tossed as high as the sky and fell low in the waves.
The storm was so bad the men lost their courage.
27They stumbled and fell like men who were drunk.
They did not know what to do.
28In their misery they cried out to the Lord.
And he saved them from their troubles.
29He made the storm be still.
He calmed the waves.
30They were happy that it was quiet.
And God guided them to the port they wanted.
31Let them give thanks to the Lord for his love
and for the miracles he does for people.
32Let them praise his greatness in the meeting of the people.
They should praise him in the meeting of the elders.
33He changed rivers into a desert,
and springs of water into dry ground.
34He made fertile land salty
because the people there did evil.
35He changed the desert into pools of water
and dry ground into springs of water.
36He had the hungry settle there.
They built a city to live in.
37They planted seeds in the fields and vineyards.
And they had a good harvest.
38God blessed them, and they grew in number.
Their cattle did not become fewer.
39Because of disaster, troubles and sadness,
their families grew smaller and weaker.
40He showed he was displeased with their important men.
He made them wander in a pathless desert.
41But he lifted the poor out of their suffering.
And he made their families grow like flocks of sheep.
42Good people see this and are happy.
But the wicked say nothing.
43Whoever is wise will remember these things.
He will think about the love of the Lord.
