Joshua 1
1
1And it came to pass after the death of Moses the servant of Jehovah, that Jehovah spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' attendant, saying, 2Moses my servant is dead; and now, rise up, go over this Jordan, thou and all this people, into the land which I give unto them, to the children of Israel. 3Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread have I given to you, as I said unto Moses. 4From the wilderness and this Lebanon to the great river, the river Euphrates, the whole land of the Hittites, to the great sea, toward the going down of the sun, shall be your border. 5None shall be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so will I be with thee; I will not leave thee, neither will I forsake thee. 6Be strong and courageous, for thou shalt cause this people to inherit the land which I have sworn unto their fathers to give them. 7Only be strong and very courageous, that thou mayest take heed to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded thee. Turn not from it to the right or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. 8This book of the law shall not depart from thy mouth; and thou shalt meditate upon it day and night, that thou mayest take heed to do according to all that is written therein; for then shalt thou have good success in thy ways, and then shalt thou prosper. 9Have I not commanded thee: Be strong and courageous? Be not afraid, neither be dismayed; for Jehovah thy God#GodHebrew: Elohim is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
10And Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11Go through the midst of the camp, and command the people, saying, Prepare yourselves victuals, for in three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, that ye may enter in to take possession of the land which Jehovah your God#GodHebrew: Elohim giveth you to possess it. 12And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites and to half the tribe of Manasseh spoke Joshua, saying, 13Remember the word that Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded you, saying, Jehovah your God#GodHebrew: Elohim has given you rest and has given you this land. 14Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle shall abide in the land that Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan, but ye, all the valiant men, shall go over in array before your brethren and help them, 15until Jehovah give your brethren rest as to you, and they also take possession of the land which Jehovah your God#GodHebrew: Elohim giveth them; then shall ye return into the land of your possession and possess it, which Moses the servant of Jehovah gave you on this side of the Jordan toward the sun-rising.
16And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou hast commanded us will we do, and whither thou shalt send us will we go. 17According as we hearkened to Moses in all things, so will we hearken to thee; only may Jehovah thy God#GodHebrew: Elohim be with thee as he was with Moses. 18Every one that is rebellious against thy commandment and hearkeneth not to thy words in everything that thou commandest us, shall be put to death. Only be strong and courageous.

Joshua 1
1
God’s Command to Joshua
1After Moses, the servant of the Lord, died, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. 2The Lord said, “My servant Moses is dead. Now you and all these people go across the Jordan River into the land I am giving to the Israelites. 3I promised Moses I would give you this land, so I will give you every place you go in the land. 4All the land from the desert in the south to Lebanon in the north will be yours. All the land from the great river, the Euphrates, in the east, to the Mediterranean Sea in the west will be yours, too, including the land of the Hittites. 5No one will be able to defeat you all your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forget you.
6“Joshua, be strong and brave! You must lead these people so they can take the land that I promised their fathers I would give them. 7Be strong and brave. Be sure to obey all the teachings my servant Moses gave you. If you follow them exactly, you will be successful in everything you do. 8Always remember what is written in the Book of the Teachings. Study it day and night to be sure to obey everything that is written there. If you do this, you will be wise and successful in everything. 9Remember that I commanded you to be strong and brave. Don’t be afraid, because the Lord your God will be with you everywhere you go.”
Joshua’s Orders to the People
10Then Joshua gave orders to the officers of the people: 11“Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get your supplies ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan River and take the land the Lord your God is giving you.’ ”
12Then Joshua said to the people of Reuben, Gad, and East Manasseh, 13“Remember what Moses, the servant of the Lord, told you. He said the Lord your God would give you rest and would give you this land. 14Now the Lord has given you this land east of the Jordan River. Your wives, children, and animals may stay here, but your fighting men must dress for war and cross the Jordan River ahead of your brothers to help them. 15The Lord has given you a place to rest and will do the same for your brothers. But you must help them until they take the land the Lord their God is giving them. Then you may return to your own land east of the Jordan River, the land that Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave you.”
16Then the people answered Joshua, “Anything you command us to do, we will do. Any place you send us, we will go. 17Just as we fully obeyed Moses, we will obey you. We ask only that the Lord your God be with you just as he was with Moses. 18Whoever refuses to obey your commands or turns against you will be put to death. Just be strong and brave!”
