Mark 13
13
1And as he went forth out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, behold, what manner of stones and what manner of buildings! 2And Jesus said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left here one stone upon another, which shall not be thrown down. 3And as he sat on the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately, 4Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when these things are all about to be accomplished?
5And Jesus began to say unto them, Take heed that no man lead you astray. 6Many shall come in my name, saying, I am he; and shall lead many astray. 7And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be not troubled: these things must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet. 8For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: there shall be earthquakes in divers places; there shall be famines: these things are the beginning of travail. 9But take ye heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in synagogues shall ye be beaten; and before governors and kings shall ye stand for my sake, for a testimony unto them. 10And the gospel must first be preached unto all the nations. 11And when they lead you to judgement, and deliver you up, be not anxious beforehand what ye shall speak: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. 12And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and the father his child; and children shall rise up against parents, and cause them to be put to death. 13And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.
14But when ye see the abomination of desolation standing where he ought not (let him that readeth understand), then let them that are in Judaea flee unto the mountains: 15and let him that is on the housetop not go down, nor enter in, to take anything out of his house: 16and let him that is in the field not return back to take his cloke. 17But woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days! 18And pray ye that it be not in the winter. 19For those days shall be tribulation, such as there hath not been the like from the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never shall be. 20And except the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he chose, he shortened the days. 21And then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is the Christ; or, Lo, there; believe it not: 22for there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew signs and wonders, that they may lead astray, if possible, the elect. 23But take ye heed: behold, I have told you all things beforehand.
24But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, 25and the stars shall be falling from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens shall be shaken. 26And then shall they see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27And then shall he send forth the angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
28Now from the fig tree learn her parable: when her branch is now become tender, and putteth forth its leaves, ye know that the summer is nigh; 29even so ye also, when ye see these things coming to pass, know ye that he is nigh, even at the doors. 30Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, until all these things be accomplished. 31Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. 32But of that day or that hour knoweth no one, not even the angels in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. 33Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. 34It is as when a man, sojourning in another country, having left his house, and given authority to his servants, to each one his work, commanded also the porter to watch. 35Watch therefore: for ye know not when the lord of the house cometh, whether at even, or at midnight, or at cockcrowing, or in the morning; 36lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. 37And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.

Jesus Foretells Destruction of the Temple
1 # For ver. 1-37, see Matt. 24:1-51; Luke 21:5-36 And as he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher, what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!” 2And Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? #Luke 19:44There will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”
Signs of the End of the Age
3And as he sat on #See Matt. 21:1 the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, #Matt. 17:1 Peter and James and John and #ch. 1:16, 29 Andrew asked him #[ch. 4:34]privately, 4“Tell us, #[Acts 1:6, 7]when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are about to be accomplished?” 5And Jesus began to say to them, #ver. 9, 23, 33; Jer. 29:8; Eph. 5:6; Col. 2:8; 1 Thess. 2:3; 1 John 3:7“See that no one leads you astray. 6#ver. 22; Jer. 14:14; 1 John 2:18 Many will come in my name, saying, #See John 8:24‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray. 7And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, #2 Thess. 2:2 do not be alarmed. This #Rev. 1:1must take place, but the end is not yet. 8For #2 Chr. 15:6; [Rev. 6:4] nation will rise against nation, and #Isa. 19:2 kingdom against kingdom. There will be #Rev. 6:12 earthquakes in various places; there will be #Acts 11:28; Rev. 6:8famines. These are but the beginning of the birth pains.
9 # For ver. 9, 11-13, [Matt. 10:17-22; Luke 12:11, 12] “But # ver. 5; 2 John 8 be on your guard. For they will deliver you over to councils, and you will be beaten # See Matt. 23:34 in synagogues, and you will stand before #
Acts 17:6; 18:12; 24:1; 25:6 governors and # [Acts 27:24] kings for my sake, # See Matt. 8:4 to bear witness before them. 10And the gospel must first be proclaimed #Matt. 28:19; Rom. 10:18; Col. 1:6, 23; [ch. 14:9]to all nations. 11And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, #See Matt. 6:25 do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say #Deut. 18:18; [Num. 23:5]; See Ex. 4:12 whatever is given you in that hour, #Acts 4:8; 6:10; 13:9; 1 Cor. 15:10; 2 Cor. 13:3; [1 Thess. 2:13; Heb. 1:1]for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit. 12#Matt. 10:35, 36And brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death. 13#John 15:18-21; [Luke 6:22] And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. #[Dan. 12:12, 13; James 5:11; Rev. 2:10]; See Heb. 3:6But the one who endures to the end will be saved.
The Abomination of Desolation
14 “But when you see #
Dan. 9:27; 11:31; 12:11 the abomination of desolation standing where he ought not to be ( # [Dan. 9:23, 25; Rev. 1:3] let the reader understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 15#Luke 17:31 Let the one who is on #See Luke 5:19the housetop not go down, nor enter his house, to take anything out, 16and let the one who is in the field not turn back to take his cloak. 17And #Luke 23:29alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! 18Pray that it may not happen in winter. 19For in those days there will be #Rev. 16:18 such #ver. 24; Dan. 12:1; [Rev. 7:14] tribulation as has not been #See ch. 10:6; [Deut. 4:32] from the beginning of the creation that #Gen. 1:1God created until now, and never will be. 20And if the Lord had not cut short the days, no human being would be saved. But for #ver. 22, 27; Isa. 65:8, 9; Luke 18:7; [Matt. 22:14] the sake of the elect, whom #John 13:18; 15:19; Eph. 1:4he chose, he shortened the days. 21And #Luke 17:23; [ver. 6]then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. 22#[1 John 2:18] For false christs and false prophets will arise and #Deut. 13:1-3; 2 Thess. 2:9-11; Rev. 13:13, 14; 16:14; 19:20; [Acts 8:9] perform signs and wonders, #ver. 6 to lead astray, if possible, #ver. 20, 27the elect. 23But #ver. 5 be on guard; #John 13:19; 14:29; [2 Pet. 3:17]I have told you all things beforehand.
The Coming of the Son of Man
24 “But in those days, after # ver. 19 that tribulation, #
Isa. 13:10; 24:23; Ezek. 32:7; Joel 2:10, 31; 3:15; Acts 2:20; [Amos 5:20; 8:9; Zeph. 1:15; Rev. 6:12; 8:12] the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, 25and #Rev. 6:13; [Isa. 14:12; 34:4]the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26And then they will see #See Dan. 7:13 the Son of Man coming in clouds #ch. 9:1; Matt. 26:64; [Matt. 25:31]with great power and glory. 27And then #Matt. 13:41 he will send out the angels and #[Matt. 23:37; 2 Thess. 2:1] gather #ver. 20, 22 his elect from #Dan. 7:2; Zech. 2:6; Rev. 7:1 the four winds, from #[Acts 1:8] the ends of the earth #Deut. 4:32; 30:4to the ends of heaven.
The Lesson of the Fig Tree
28 “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. 29So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, #[James 5:9; Rev. 3:20]at the very gates. 30#See ch. 9:1Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 31#Ps. 102:26; Isa. 51:6; 2 Pet. 3:10; [Matt. 5:18; Heb. 12:27] Heaven and earth will pass away, but #Ps. 119:89; Isa. 40:8; 1 Pet. 1:23, 25my words will not pass away.
No One Knows That Day or Hour
32 “But concerning that day or that hour, #
Matt. 25:13; 1 Thess. 5:1, 2 no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, # [Phil. 2:6, 7] nor the Son, # [Zech. 14:7; Acts 1:7] but only the Father. 33#ver. 5 Be on guard, #Eph. 6:18; Heb. 13:17; [ch. 14:38]keep awake.#13:33 Some manuscripts add and pray For you do not know when the time will come. 34#[Matt. 25:14] It is like a man #[ch. 12:1; Matt. 21:33] going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants#13:34 Or bondservants in charge, #[Rom. 12:6-8] each with his work, and commands #Ezek. 44:11; John 10:3; [Luke 12:36]the doorkeeper to stay awake. 35#ch. 14:34-38; Matt. 25:13; 26:41; Luke 12:37; 21:36; Acts 20:31; 1 Cor. 16:13; 1 Thess. 5:6; 1 Pet. 5:8 Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, #ch. 1:32; Luke 12:38 in the evening, or #ch. 1:32; Luke 12:38 at midnight, or #ch. 14:30, 68, 72 when the rooster crows,#13:35 That is, the third watch of the night, between midnight and 3 a.m. or #[ch. 6:48; Ex. 14:24]in the morning— 36lest #[1 Thess. 5:1-6] he come suddenly and #ch. 14:40find you asleep. 37And what I say to you I say to all: #[See ver. 35 above]Stay awake.”
