Romans 15

15
The Example of Christ
1 But we, the strong ones, ought to bear the weaknesses of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let each of us please his neighbour for his good, with a view to his edification. 3 For even Christ did not please Himself, but just as it is written: “The reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen upon Me.”* 4 For whatever was written previously was written for our learning, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures.
Prayer for Spiritual Unity
5 Now may the God of endurance and of encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, 6 so that with one mind and one mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted you,* to the glory of God.
The Universal Calling of Christ
8 For I say, Christ has become a servant of the circumcision for the truth of God, in order to confirm the promises given to the fathers, 9 and for the Gentiles to glorify God for mercy, just as it is written:
“For this reason, I will acknowledge You among the Gentiles,
and I will sing praises to Your name.”*
10 And again, it says,
“Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people.”*
11 And again,
“Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles,
and let all the peoples praise* Him.”*
12 And again, Isaiah says,
“There will emerge* the root of Jesse,
and the One who arises to rule over the Gentiles;
in Him the Gentiles will hope.”*
13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace that come through trusting,* so that you may overflow* with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Paul’s Apostolic Calling to the Gentiles
14 Now I myself also am convinced about you, my brothers, that you yourselves also are full of goodness, complete in all knowledge, and able to admonish one another. 15 But I have written to you* very boldly in some measure,* so as to remind you again, because of the grace that has been given to me by God, 16 with the intention of being a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles,* performing the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
17 Therefore, I have a reason for boasting in Christ Jesus with respect to the things that pertain to God. 18 For I will not venture to speak about anything other than that which Christ has accomplished through me, leading to the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed, 19 by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and all around as far as Illyricum I have fully carried out the preaching of* the gospel of Christ. 20 And thus, I aspired to preach the gospel, not where Christ had already* been named, so that I would not build on another’s foundation. 21 But just as it is written:
“Those who have not been told concerning Him will see,
and those who have not heard will understand.”*
Paul’s Travel Plans
22 For this reason, I also have been repeatedly hindered from coming to you. 23 But now, since I no longer have a place in these regions, and since I have had an eager desire for a considerable number of years to come to you 24 whenever I go to Spain,* for I hope to see you while passing through and to be assisted on my way there by you, after I have first enjoyed your company for a while. 25 But, at present, I am going to Jerusalem, serving the saints. 26 For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make some contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. 27 For they were pleased to do that, and they are their debtors. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual resources,* they are also obligated to minister to them with their* material resources. 28 Therefore, when I have completed this and sealed this fruit to them, I will depart by way of you to Spain. 29 And I know that, when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of* Christ.
Appeal for Prayer, and Benediction
30 Now I exhort you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to contend together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf, 31 that I may be rescued from those who do not believe* in Judea, and that my service in Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints, 32 so that, when I come to you in joy by the will of God,* I may find rest with you.
33 Now the God of peace be with all of you. Amen.**
