Acts 14

14
In Iconium
1 Now it occurred that in Iconium, they entered into the synagogue of the Jews together and spoke in such a manner that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed. 2 But the unbelieving Jews aroused and embittered the minds of the Gentiles against the brothers. 3 So they stayed there for a significant period of time, speaking with confidence for the Lord, who bore witness to the word of His grace, granting signs and wonders to be performed by their hands. 4 But the population of the city was split, and some aligned with the Jews and some with the apostles. 5 So when a violent attempt was made by both the Gentiles and the Jews, along with their rulers, to ill-treat them and to pelt them with stones, 6 they were informed of it and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe and the neighbouring region. 7 And there they continued to preach the gospel. ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬
In Lystra and Derbe
8 Now in Lystra, a certain man was sitting, unable to use his feet, lame from his mother’s womb, who had never walked. 9 This one listened as Paul was speaking, who, having looked intently at him and having seen that he had faith to be healed, 10 said with a loud voice, “Stand straight on your feet.” And he sprang up* and began to walk. 11 And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voices in Lycaonian, saying, “The gods have assumed human likeness and have descended on us!” 12 And they began to call Barnabas Zeus and Paul Hermes, because he was the foremost speaker. 13 And the priest of Zeus, whose temple* was just outside the city, brought bulls and garlands to the gates and wanted to sacrifice, together with the crowds. 14 Upon hearing this, the apostles Barnabas and Paul tore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, crying out 15 and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men, having the same nature as you, preaching the gospel to you that you should turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all the things in them, and* 16 who in generations that are past allowed all the nations to go their own ways. 17 And yet, He did not leave Himself without testimony by doing good, granting you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.” 18 Even though they said these things, they had difficulty in restraining the crowds from sacrificing to them.
19 But Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium, and after they had persuaded the crowds and stoned Paul, they dragged him outside the city, presuming him to have died. 20 But when the disciples surrounded him, he rose up and went into the city. And on the next day, he went away with Barnabas to Derbe.
The Return to Lystra, Iconium, and Derbe
21 And when they had preached the gospel in that city and had discipled a significant number, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to remain in the faith, and affirming* that through many tribulations it is indispensable for us to enter the kingdom of God. 23 Now, having selected elders for them in every church, and having prayed with fasting, they entrusted them to the Lord, in whom they had believed.
24 And having passed through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia. 25 And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia, 26 and from there they set sail to Antioch, where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work which they had finished. 27 And when they arrived and gathered the church together, they began to report all that God had done with them, and that He had opened a door of faith for the Gentiles. 28 And they remained with the disciples for a substantial period of time.
