Concerning Judging Others
Lk. 6:37–38, 41–42
1 "Do not make yourselves judges over others with a critical and condemning spirit, lest you bring the same kind of severe judgment upon yourselves.
2 For God will apply to you the very same standard of judgment that you have used towards others, and the measure of mercy or harshness you extend will be measured back to you in equal proportion.
3 Why do you fixate on the insignificant speck of sawdust in your fellow believer's eye while remaining completely blind to the massive wooden beam that obstructs your own vision?
4 How can you presume to say to your brother, 'Allow me to remove that tiny speck from your eye,' when your own eye is blocked by a plank so large you cannot even see clearly?
5 You hypocrite! You must first deal with the plank of sin in your own life, removing it through repentance and correction, and only then will your vision be clear enough to help your brother with his smaller fault.
6 "Do not take what is sacred and holy—the precious truths of the gospel—and cast them before those who are like dogs, who have no respect for spiritual things. Do not throw your pearls of divine wisdom before swine, who will only trample them in the mud and then turn on you with hostility and violence.
Concerning Asking, Seeking, and Knocking
Lk. 11:9–13
7 "Continue persistently in prayer: keep asking and God will give to you; keep seeking and you will discover what you need; keep knocking and the door of heaven's provision will be opened to you.
8 For this is a divine principle: Everyone who asks with faith receives; the one who diligently seeks finds what he is looking for; and to the one who knocks persistently, the door will be opened.
9 What father among you would be so cruel that, if his son asks him for bread to satisfy his hunger, would hand him a stone instead?
10 Or if his son asks for a fish to eat, would give him a venomous snake that would harm him?
11 If you, then, though you are sinful and imperfect by nature, know how to give good and beneficial gifts to your children, how much more will your perfectly loving Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him in faith!
12 Therefore, this is the practical rule for all your relationships: In every situation, whatever you would desire people to do for you, do precisely that same thing for them. This single principle summarises and fulfils all the requirements of the entire Law and the teaching of the Prophets.
Concerning the Narrow Gate
Lk. 13:24
13 "Make every effort to enter through the narrow gate of salvation, for the gate that leads to destruction is wide and the road is broad and easy, and tragically, many people are travelling on that path.
14 But the gate that leads to eternal life is narrow and restrictive, and the road is difficult and demanding, and only a few people find it and are willing to walk it.
A Tree and Its Fruit
Lk. 6:43–44
15 "Be constantly on guard against false prophets who approach you disguised as harmless sheep in their outward appearance, but inwardly their true nature is that of vicious, predatory wolves who will devour the flock.
16 You will be able to recognise and identify them by examining the fruit that their lives and teaching produce. People do not gather edible grapes from thornbushes, nor do they pick figs from thistles, do they?
17 In the same way, every healthy and sound tree produces fruit that is good and nourishing, but a diseased and corrupt tree produces fruit that is bad and worthless.
18 A healthy tree cannot produce bad fruit because it is sound at its core, just as a diseased tree is incapable of producing good fruit because it is rotten within.
19 Every tree that fails to produce good fruit is cut down by the owner and thrown into the fire for destruction.
20 So then, by this principle you will surely recognise false prophets—by carefully examining the fruit that their lives and ministries produce over time.
I Have Never Known You
Lk. 13:25–27
21 "Not everyone who addresses Me with the words 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the person who actually obeys and does the will of My Father who is in heaven.
22 On that final day of judgment, many will plead with Me, saying, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy and preach in Your name? Did we not cast out demons by invoking Your name? Did we not perform many miracles and mighty works in Your name?'
23 And then I will declare to them with unmistakable clarity, 'I never knew you in an intimate, saving relationship. Depart from My presence, you who practise lawlessness and rebellion against God despite your religious activities.'
The Two Foundations
Lk. 6:47–49
24 "Therefore, everyone who hears these authoritative words of Mine and puts them into practice by obeying them will be like a wise and prudent man who built his house upon the solid rock.
25 The rain poured down in torrents, the floodwaters rose and surged, the winds blew with force and battered that house, yet it did not collapse or fall because its foundation was firmly and securely established on the bedrock.
26 But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them or obey them will be like a foolish and shortsighted man who built his house upon the sand.
27 The rain poured down, the floodwaters rose and rushed against it, the winds blew and pounded violently against that house, and it collapsed completely in ruins—and its destruction was utter and catastrophic.
28 When Jesus finished delivering these profound teachings, the crowds who had been listening were utterly astonished and amazed at His instruction and doctrine,
29 because He taught them as one who possessed inherent divine authority in Himself, not like their scribes and religious teachers who merely quoted other rabbis and authorities to validate their interpretations.
