Psalms 103
103
Praise of Divine Goodness
1Of David.
I
Bless the Lord, my soul;
all my being, bless his holy name!
2Bless the Lord, my soul;
and do not forget all his gifts,
3Who pardons all your sins,
and heals all your ills,
4Who redeems your life from the pit,#Ps 28:1; 30:4; 40:3; 69:16; 88:5; 143:7; Prv 1:12; Jon 2:7.
and crowns you with mercy and compassion,
5Who fills your days with good things,
so your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.#Your youth is renewed like the eagle’s: because of the eagle’s long life it was a symbol of perennial youth and vigor, cf. Is 40:31.
II
6The Lord does righteous deeds,
brings justice to all the oppressed.#Ps 146:6–7.
7He made known his ways to Moses,
to the Israelites his deeds.
8Merciful and gracious is the Lord,
slow to anger, abounding in mercy.#Ps 86:15; 145:8; Ex 34:6–7; Nm 14:18; Jer 3:12; Jl 2:13; Jon 4:2.
9He will not always accuse,
and nurses no lasting anger;
10He has not dealt with us as our sins merit,
nor requited us as our wrongs deserve.
III
11For as the heavens tower over the earth,
so his mercy towers over those who fear him.#Is 55:9.
12As far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our sins from us.
13As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.
14For he knows how we are formed,
remembers that we are dust.#Ps 90:3.
15As for man, his days are like the grass;
he blossoms like a flower in the field.#Ps 37:2; 90:5–6; Is 40:7.
16A wind sweeps over it and it is gone;
its place knows it no more.
17But the Lord’s mercy is from age to age,
toward those who fear him.
His salvation is for the children’s children
18of those who keep his covenant,
and remember to carry out his precepts.
IV
19The Lord has set his throne in heaven;
his dominion extends over all.
20Bless the Lord, all you his angels,#Ps 148:2; Dn 3:58.
mighty in strength, acting at his behest,
obedient to his command.
21Bless the Lord, all you his hosts,
his ministers who carry out his will.
22Bless the Lord, all his creatures,
everywhere in his domain.
Bless the Lord, my soul!

Psalm 103
103
+[A Psalm+] of David.
1 BLESS (AFFECTIONATELY, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul; and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits–
3 Who forgives [every one of] all your iniquities, Who heals [each one of] all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from the pit and corruption, Who beautifies, dignifies, and crowns you with loving-kindness and tender mercy;
5 Who satisfies your mouth [your necessity and desire at your personal age and situation] with good so that your youth, renewed, is like the eagle's [strong, overcoming, soaring]! [Isa. 40:31.]
6 The Lord executes righteousness and justice [not for me only, but] for all who are oppressed.
7 He made known His ways [of righteousness and justice] to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.
8 The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and plenteous in mercy and loving-kindness. [James 5:11.]
9 He will not always chide or be contending, neither will He keep His anger forever or hold a grudge.
10 He has not dealt with us after our sins nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great are His mercy and loving-kindness toward those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him.
12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
13 As a father loves and pities his children, so the Lord loves and pities those who fear Him [with reverence, worship, and awe].
14 For He knows our frame, He [earnestly] remembers and imprints [on His heart] that we are dust.
15 As for man, his days are as grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes.
16 For the wind passes over it and it is gone, and its place shall know it no more.
17 But the mercy and loving-kindness of the Lord are from everlasting to everlasting upon those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, and His righteousness is to children's children–[Deut. 10:12.]
18 To such as keep His covenant [hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying it] and to those who [earnestly] remember His commandments to do them [imprinting them on their hearts].
19 The Lord has established His throne in the heavens, and His kingdom rules over all.
20 Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, you His angels, you mighty ones who do His commandments, hearkening to the voice of His word.
21 Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, all you His hosts, you His ministers who do His pleasure.
22 Bless the Lord, all His works in all places of His dominion; bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul!
