Psalms 132
132
In Praise of the Temple
1 LORD, do not forget David
and all the hardships he endured.
2Remember, LORD, what he promised,
the vow he made to you, the Mighty God of Jacob:
3“I will not go home or go to bed;
4I will not rest or sleep,
5until I provide a place for the LORD,
a home for the Mighty God of Jacob.”

2 Chr 6.41–42
In Bethlehem we heard about the Covenant Box,
and we found it in the fields of Jearim.
7We said, “Let us go to the LORD's house;
let us worship before his throne.”
8Come to the Temple, LORD, with the Covenant Box,
the symbol of your power,
and stay here for ever.
9May your priests do always what is right;
may your people shout for joy!
10You made a promise to your servant David;
do not reject your chosen king, LORD.

2 Sam 7.12–16; 1 Chr 17.11–14; Ps 89.3–4; Acts 2.30 You made a solemn promise to David —
a promise you will not take back:
“I will make one of your sons king,
and he will rule after you.
12If your sons are true to my covenant
and to the commands I give them,
their sons, also, will succeed you for all time as kings.”
13The LORD has chosen Zion;
he wants to make it his home:
14“This is where I will live for ever;
this is where I want to rule.
15I will richly provide Zion with all she needs;
I will satisfy her poor with food.
16I will bless her priests in all they do,
and her people will sing and shout for joy.

1 Kgs 11.36
Here I will make one of David's descendants a great king;
here I will preserve the rule of my chosen king.
18I will cover his enemies with shame,
but his kingdom will prosper and flourish.”

Psalms 132
132
In Praise of the Temple
A song for going up to worship.
1Lord, remember David and all his suffering.
2He made a promise to the Lord.
He made a promise to the Mighty God of Jacob.
3He said, “I will not go home to my house.
I will not lie down on my bed.
4I will not close my eyes
or let myself sleep
5until I find a place for the Lord.
I want to provide a home for the Mighty God of Jacob.”
6We heard about the Ark of the Covenant in Bethlehem.
We found it at Kiriath Jearim.
7Let’s go to the Lord’s house.
Let’s worship at his footstool.
8Rise, Lord, and come to your resting place.
Come with the Ark of the Covenant that shows your strength.
9May your priests do what is right.
May your people sing for joy.
10For the sake of your servant David,
do not reject your appointed king.
11The Lord made a promise to David.
It was a sure promise that he will not take back.
He promised, “I will make one of your descendants
rule as king after you.
12But your sons must keep my agreement
and the rules that I teach them.
Then their sons after them will rule
on your throne forever and ever.”
13The Lord has chosen Jerusalem.
He wants it for his home.
14He says, “This is my resting place forever.
Here is where I want to stay.
15I will bless her with plenty of food.
I will fill her poor with food.
16I will let her priests receive salvation.
And those who worship me will really sing for joy.
17“I will make a king come from the family of David.
I will provide my appointed one descendants to rule after him.
18I will cover his enemies with shame.
But his crown will shine.”
