Acts 3
3
A Lame Man is Healed
1One day Peter and John went to the Temple at three o'clock in the afternoon, the hour for prayer. 2There at the Beautiful Gate, as it was called, was a man who had been lame all his life. Every day he was carried to the gate to beg for money from the people who were going into the Temple. 3When he saw Peter and John going in, he begged them to give him something. 4They looked straight at him, and Peter said, “Look at us!” 5So he looked at them, expecting to get something from them. 6But Peter said to him, “I have no money at all, but I give you what I have: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth I order you to get up and walk!” 7Then he took him by his right hand and helped him up. At once the man's feet and ankles became strong; 8he jumped up, stood on his feet, and started walking around. Then he went into the Temple with them, walking and jumping and praising God. 9The people there saw him walking and praising God, 10and when they recognized him as the beggar who had sat at the Beautiful Gate, they were all surprised and amazed at what had happened to him.
Peter's Message in the Temple
11As the man held on to Peter and John in Solomon's Porch, as it was called, the people were amazed and ran to them. 12When Peter saw the people, he said to them, “Fellow-Israelites, why are you surprised at this, and why do you stare at us? Do you think that it was by means of our own power or godliness that we made this man walk? 13#Ex 3.15The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our ancestors, has given divine glory to his Servant Jesus. But you handed him over to the authorities, and you rejected him in Pilate's presence, even after Pilate had decided to set him free. 14#Mt 27.15–23; Mk 15.6–14; Lk 23.13–23; Jn 19.12–15He was holy and good, but you rejected him, and instead you asked Pilate to do you the favour of turning loose a murderer. 15You killed the one who leads to life, but God raised him from death — and we are witnesses to this. 16It was the power of his name that gave strength to this lame man. What you see and know was done by faith in his name; it was faith in Jesus that has made him well, as you can all see.
17“And now, my fellow-Israelites, I know that what you and your leaders did to Jesus was due to your ignorance. 18God announced long ago through all the prophets that his Messiah had to suffer; and he made it come true in this way. 19Repent, then, and turn to God, so that he will forgive your sins. If you do, 20times of spiritual strength will come from the Lord, and he will send Jesus, who is the Messiah he has already chosen for you. 21He must remain in heaven until the time comes for all things to be made new, as God announced through his holy prophets who lived long ago. 22#Deut 18.15, 18 (LXX)For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will send you a prophet, just as he sent me,#3.22 just as he sent me; or like me. and he will be one of your own people. You are to obey everything that he tells you to do. 23#Deut 18.19Anyone who does not obey that prophet shall be separated from God's people and destroyed.’ 24And all the prophets who had a message, including Samuel and those who came after him, also announced what has been happening these days. 25#Gen 22.18The promises of God through his prophets are for you, and you share in the covenant which God made with your ancestors. As he said to Abraham, ‘Through your descendants I will bless all the people on earth.’ 26And so God chose his Servant and sent him first to you, to bless you by making every one of you turn away from your wicked ways.”

Acts 3
3
A Lame Man Is Healed
1Peter and John were going to the temple courtyard for the three o’clock prayer. 2At the same time, a man who had been lame from birth was being carried by some men. Every day these men would put the lame man at a gate in the temple courtyard. The gate was called Beautiful Gate. There he would beg for handouts from people going into the courtyard. 3When the man saw that Peter and John were about to go into the courtyard, he asked them for a handout.
4Peter and John stared at him. “Look at us!” Peter said. 5So the man watched them closely. He expected to receive something from them. 6However, Peter said to him, “I don’t have any money, but I’ll give you what I do have. Through the power of Jesus Christ from Nazareth, walk!” 7Peter took hold of the man’s right hand and began to help him up. Immediately, the man’s feet and ankles became strong. 8Springing to his feet, he stood up and started to walk. He went with Peter and John into the temple courtyard. The man was walking, jumping, and praising God.
9All the people saw him walking and praising God. 10They knew that he was the man who used to sit and beg at the temple’s Beautiful Gate. The people were amazed and stunned to see what had happened to him. 11They were excited, and everyone ran to see them at the place called Solomon’s Porch. The man wouldn’t let go of Peter and John.
12When Peter saw this, he said to the people, “Men of Israel, why are you amazed about this man? Why are you staring at us as though we have made him walk by our own power or godly life? 13The God of our ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed Jesus over to Pilate. You rejected him in Pilate’s presence, even though Pilate had decided to let him go free. 14You rejected the man who was holy and innocent. You asked to have a murderer given to you, 15and you killed the source of life. But God brought him back to life, and we are witnesses to that. 16We believe in the one named Jesus. Through his power alone this man, whom you know, was healed, as all of you saw.
17“And now, brothers, I know that like your rulers you didn’t know what you were doing. 18But in this way God made the sufferings of his Messiah come true. God had predicted these sufferings through all the prophets. 19So change the way you think and act, and turn ⌞to God⌟ to have your sins removed. 20Then times will come when the Lord will refresh you. He will send you Jesus, whom he has appointed to be the Christ. 21Heaven must receive Jesus until the time when everything will be restored as God promised through his holy prophets long ago.
22“Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will send you a prophet, an Israelite like me. Listen to everything he tells you. 23Those who won’t listen to that prophet will be excluded from the people.’ 24Samuel and all the prophets who followed him spoke about these days. 25You are the descendants of the prophets and the heirs of the promise #3:25 Or “covenant.” that God made to our ancestors when he said to Abraham, ‘Through your descendant all people on earth will be blessed.’ 26God has brought his servant back to life and has sent him to you first. God did this to bless you by turning every one of you from your evil ways.”
