Proverbs 2
2
1 My son, if you would accept my words, and conceal my commandments within you,
2 so that your ears may listen to wisdom, then bend your heart in order to know prudence.
3 For if you would call upon wisdom and bend your heart to prudence,
4 if you will seek her like money, and dig for her as if for treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and you will discover the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord bestows wisdom, and out of his mouth, prudence and knowledge.
7 He will preserve the salvation of the righteous, and he will protect those who walk in simplicity:
8 serving the paths of justice, and guarding the ways of sanctity.
9 Then you shall understand justice and judgment, and equity, and every good path.
10 If wisdom is to enter into your heart, and if knowledge is to become pleasing to your soul,
11 then counsel must guard you, and prudence must serve you,
12 so that you may be rescued from the evil way, and from the man who speaks perversities,
13 from those who leave the straight path to walk in dark ways,
14 who rejoice when they have done evil, and who exult in the most wicked things.
15 Their ways are perverse, and their steps are infamous.
16 So may you be rescued from the foreign woman, and from the outsider, who softens her speech,
17 and who leaves behind the Guide of her youth,
18 and who has forgotten the covenant of her God. For her household inclines toward death, and her paths toward Hell.
19 All those who enter to her will not return again, nor will they take hold of the paths of life.
20 So may you walk in the good way, and keep to the difficult paths of the just.
21 For those who are upright shall live upon the earth, and the simple shall continue upon it.
22 Yet truly, the impious shall perish from the earth, and those who act unjustly shall be taken away from it.

The Benefits of Wisdom
1My child, if you will receive#Or “take, seize” my sayings,
and hide my commands with you,
2in order to incline your ear toward wisdom,
then you shall apply your heart to understanding.
3For if you cry out for understanding,#Or “call to understanding”
if you lift#Or “carry, give” your voice for insight,
4if you seek her like silver
and search her out like treasure,#Literally “like the treasures”
5then you will understand the fear of Yahweh,
and the knowledge of God you will find.
6For Yahweh will give wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7For the upright, he stores#Or “hides, keeps” sound judgment, a shield for those who walk uprightly,
8in order to guard paths of justice
and keep#Or “preserve, guard, watch” the way of his faithful ones.
9Then you will understand righteousness and justice
and uprightness—every good course—
10for wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasing to your soul.#Or “inner self”
11Discretion will watch over you;
understanding will protect you,
12in order to deliver you from the way of evil,#Or “evildoer”
from a man who speaks devious things—
13those who forsake the paths of uprightness
to walk in ways of darkness,
14those who are happy to do evil,
for they delight in the deviousness of evil,
15who are crooked in their ways,#Literally “that in their ways are crooked”
and devious in their paths;
16in order to deliver you from a strange woman,
from a foreign woman who flatters#Or “makes smooth” with her sayings,
17she who forsakes the partner of her youth
and has forgotten the covenant of her God,
18for her house sinks to death,
and to the dead#Or “Rephaim” are her paths.
19Of all who go to her, none shall return,
nor do they reach paths of life.
20So that you will walk on the road of those who are good,
and the paths of those who are righteous you shall keep.
21For those who are upright will dwell in the land,#Or “earth”
and those who are blameless#Or “innocent” will remain in it.
22And those who are wicked will be cut off from the land,
and those who are treacherous will be uprooted from it.
