Proverbs 1
1
1 The parables of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel,
2 in order to know wisdom and discipline,
3 to understand words of prudence, and to accept the instruction of doctrine, justice and judgment, and equity,
4 so as to give discernment to little ones, knowledge and understanding to adolescents.
5 By listening, the wise shall become wiser and the intelligent shall possess governments.
6 He shall turn his soul to a parable and to its interpretation, to the words of the wise and their enigmas.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. The foolish despise wisdom as well as doctrine.
8 Listen, my son, to the discipline of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother,
9 so that grace may be added to your head and a collar to your neck.
10 My son, if sinners should entice you, do not consent to them.
11 If they should say: "Come with us. We will lie in wait for blood. We will lay traps against the innocent, without cause.
12 Let us swallow him alive, like Hell, and whole, like one descending into the pit.
13 We will discover every precious substance. We will fill our houses with spoils.
14 Cast your lot with us. One purse will be for us all."
15 My son, do not walk with them. Preclude your feet from their paths.
16 For their feet rush to evil, and they hurry to shed blood.
17 But a net is thrown in vain before the eyes of those who have wings.
18 Likewise, they lie in ambush against their own blood, and they undertake deceits against their own souls.
19 Thus, the ways of all those who are greedy seize the souls of those who possess.
20 Wisdom forewarns far and wide; she bestows her voice in the streets.
21 She cries out at the head of crowds; at the entrance of the gates of the city, she offers her words, saying:
22 "Little ones, how long will you choose to be childish, and how long will the foolish desire what is harmful to themselves, and how long will the imprudent hate knowledge?
23 Be converted by my correction. Lo, I will offer my spirit to you, and I will reveal my words to you.
24 For I called, and you refused. I extended my hand, and there was no one who watched.
25 You have despised all my counsels, and you have neglected my rebukes.
26 Similarly, I will ridicule you at your demise, and I will mock you, when that which you feared shall overcome you.
27 When sudden calamity rushes upon you, and your demise advances like a tempest, when tribulation and anguish overcome you,
28 then they will call to me, and I will not heed, they will arise in the morning, and not find me.
29 For they held hatred for discipline, and they would not accept the fear of the Lord;
30 they would not consent to my counsel, but they detracted from all of my corrections.
31 Therefore, they shall eat the fruit of their way, and they shall have their fill of their own counsels.
32 The loathing of the little ones shall destroy them, and the prosperity of the foolish shall perish them.
33 But whoever will listen to me shall rest without terror, and shall have full enjoyment of abundance, without fear of evils."

Mishle 1
1
1Mishlei Sh'lomo Ben Dovid, Melech Yisroel;
2To have da'as of chochmah and musar (discipline); to understand the words of binah;
3To receive the musar of those with seichel, tzedek and mishpat, and meisharim (equity, uprightness);
4To give subtlety to the simple, to the na'ar, da'as and discretion.
5A chacham (wise person) will hear, and will increase learning, and a man of understanding shall acquire wise counsel:
6To understand a mashal (proverb), and the melitzah (enigma); the divrei chachamim, and their chidot (riddles).
7The Yirat Hashem is the reshit da'as, but fools despise chochmah and musar.
8Beni (my son), hear the musar Avicha, and forsake not the Torat Immecha.
9For they shall be a garland of chen unto thy rosh, and a chain about thy neck.
10Beni (my son), if chatt'aim (sinners) entice thee, consent thou not.
11If they say, Come with us, let us lie in wait for dahm, let us lurk secretly for the naki (innocent, harmless) chinnom (without cause);
12Let us swallow them up chayyim (alive) like She'ol; and whole, as those that go down into the bor (pit);
13We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill bateinu (our houses) with plunder;
14Throw in thy goral (lot) among us; let all of us have kis echad (one pouch, purse).
15Beni (my son), walk not thou in the derech with them; refrain thy regel from their path;
16For their raglayim run to rah, and make haste for shefach dahm (shedding of blood).
17Surely in vain the reshet (net) is spread in the eyes of kol ba'al kanaf (all the birds);#1:17 i.e., lit. master of [the] wing
18And they lie in wait for their own dahm; they lurk secretly for their own nafshot.
19So are the ways of every one that is greedy for betza (ill-gotten gain); which taketh away the nefesh of the be'alim (owners) thereof.
20Chochmot crieth out in the street; she lifts up her voice in the rechovot (city squares);
21She crieth out in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the she'arim (gates); in the Ir (city) she uttereth her words, saying,
22Ad mosai, ye simple ones, will ye love being simpletons? And the scoffers delight in their mockery, and kesilim (fools) hate da'as?
23Turn you at my tokhechah (reproof); hinei, I will pour out my ruach unto you, I will make known my devarim unto you.
24Because I have called, and ye refused, I have stretched out my yad, and no man regarded;
25But ye have disdained all my etza (counsel), and would have none of my tokhechah (reproof);
26I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your pachad (terror) cometh;
27When your pachad (terror) cometh like a storm, and your calamity cometh like a whirlwind; when tzarah (distress) and oppression cometh upon you.
28Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall look for me diligently, but they shall not find me;
29For that they hated da'as, and did not choose the Yirat Hashem;
30They would have none of my etza (counsel); they despised all my tokhechah (reproof).
31Therefore shall they eat of the p'ri (fruit) of their own derech, and be filled with their own mo'atzot (schemes, devices).
32For the waywardness of the simple shall slay them, and the complacent contentment of kesilim (fools) shall destroy them.
33But the one who payeth heed unto me#1:33 Chochmat Hashem, i.e., the Redemptive Word, not only Hashemʼs creative agent (Ps 33:6; Prov 8:30; 30:4) but the one who comes with a healing mission according to Ps 107:20, though Moshiach has to die in the midst of his healing Mission to accomplish our healing from guilt and punitive dread — Isa 53:5 shall dwell safely, and shall be secure from pachad ra'ah (terror of evil).
