Numbers 12
12
1 And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses, because of his wife, an Ethiopian,
2 and they said: "Has the Lord spoken only through Moses? Has he not also spoken similarly to us?" And when the Lord had heard this,
3 (for Moses was a man exceedingly meek, beyond all the men who were living upon the earth)
4 immediately he spoke to him, and to Aaron and Miriam, "Go out, you three only, to the tabernacle of the covenant." And when they had gone out,
5 the Lord descended in a column of cloud, and he stood at the entrance of the tabernacle, calling to Aaron and Miriam. And when they had advanced,
6 he said to them: "Listen to my words. If there will be among you a prophet of the Lord, I will appear to him in a vision, or I will speak to him through a dream.
7 But it is not so with my servant Moses, who is the most faithful in all my house.
8 For I speak with him mouth to mouth, and plainly. And not through enigmas and figures does he perceive the Lord. Therefore, why were you not afraid to disparage my servant Moses?"
9 And being angry against them, he went away.
10 Likewise, the cloud which was over the tabernacle withdrew. And behold, Miriam appeared to be white with a leprosy, like snow. And when Aaron had looked upon her, and he had seen the spreading of the leprosy,
11 he said to Moses: "I beg you, my lord, not to impose upon us this sin, which we have committed foolishly.
12 Do not let this one be like one who is dead, or like an abortion that has been cast from the womb of her mother. Behold, half of her flesh is already consumed by leprosy."
13 And Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, "O God, I beg you: heal her."
14 And the Lord answered him: "If her father had spit on her face, should she not have been filled with shame for at least seven days? Let her be separated, outside the camp, for seven days, and after that, she will be called back."
15 And so Miriam was excluded from the camp for seven days. And the people did not move from that place, until Miriam was called back.

Miriam and Aaron Criticize Moses
1Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses. They criticized him because he married an Ethiopian#12:1 Ethiopian Or “Cushite,” a person from Ethiopia, in Africa. woman. 2They said to themselves, “Moses is not the only one the Lord has used to speak to the people. He has also spoken through us!”
The Lord heard this. 3(Moses was a very humble man. He was more humble than any other man on earth.) 4So suddenly, the Lord came and spoke to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. He said, “You three, come to the Meeting Tent, now!”
So Moses, Aaron, and Miriam went to the Tent. 5The Lord came down in the tall cloud and stood at the entrance to the Tent. He called out, “Aaron and Miriam!” They went to him. 6God said, “Listen to me! You will have prophets. I, the Lord, will let them learn about me through visions. I will speak to them in dreams. 7But Moses is not like that. He is my faithful servant—I trust him with everyone in my house. 8When I speak to him, I talk face to face with him. I don’t use stories with hidden meanings—I show him clearly what I want him to know. And Moses can look at the very image of the Lord. So why were you brave enough to speak against my servant Moses?”
9The Lord was very angry with them, and he left them. 10The cloud rose from the Tent. Aaron turned and looked at Miriam. Her skin was white like snow—she had a terrible skin disease!
11Then Aaron said to Moses, “Please, sir, forgive us for the foolish sin that we did. 12Don’t let her lose her skin like a baby who is born dead.” (Sometimes a baby will be born like that, with half of its skin eaten away.)
13So Moses prayed to the Lord, “God, please heal her from this sickness!”
14The Lord answered Moses, “If her father spit in her face, she would be shamed for seven days. So put her outside the camp for seven days. After that she can come back into the camp.”
15So they took Miriam outside the camp for seven days. And the people did not move from that place until she was brought in again. 16After that the people left Hazeroth and traveled to the desert of Paran where they set up camp.
