Jeremiah 47
47
1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah, the prophet, against the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.
2 Thus says the Lord: "Behold, waters will rise up from the north, and they will be like an inundating torrent, and they will cover the land and its plenitude, the city and its inhabitants. The men will cry out, and all the inhabitants of the land will wail,
3 before the uproar of a procession of weapons and of his soldiers, before the commotion of his four-horse chariots and the multitude of his wheels. The fathers have not looked back for the sons, because of feebleness of hands,
4 because of the arrival of the day on which all the Philistines will be devastated, and Tyre and Sidon will be destroyed, with all the rest of their helpers. For the Lord has depopulated the Philistines, the remnant of the island of Cappadocia.
5 Baldness has arrived over Gaza. Ashkelon has been silenced, along with the remnant of their valley. And how long will you continue to be cut down?
6 O sharp sword of the Lord, how long will you be without rest? Enter your sheath; be refreshed and silenced.
7 But how can it find rest, when the Lord has ordered it against Ashkelon and against its maritime regions, and when a task has been appointed to it there?"

Judgment on the Philistines
1The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet #ch. 25:20; Ezek. 25:15, 16; Zeph. 2:5 concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck down #Amos 1:6, 7; Zeph. 2:4Gaza.
2“Thus says the Lord:
# [ch. 46:7, 8; Isa. 8:7] Behold, waters are rising #See ch. 1:13 out of the north,
# [ch. 46:7, 8; Isa. 8:7] and shall become an overflowing torrent;
they shall overflow #[ch. 8:16]the land and all that fills it,
the city and those who dwell in it.
Men shall cry out,
and every inhabitant of the land shall wail.
3At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his stallions,
#
Nah. 3:2 at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of their wheels,
the fathers #ch. 46:5look not back to their children,
so feeble are their hands,
4because of the day that is coming to destroy
all #[See ver. 1 above] the Philistines,
to cut off from #Isa. 23:1, 2; Joel 3:4; See ch. 25:22 Tyre and Sidon
every helper that remains.
For the Lord is destroying the Philistines,
#
Amos 1:8 the remnant of the coastland of #Gen. 10:14; Amos 9:7Caphtor.
5 # [ch. 48:37; Isa. 3:24] Baldness has come upon Gaza;
# ch. 25:20; [Judg. 1:18] Ashkelon has perished.
O remnant of their valley,
# [ch. 48:37] how long will you gash yourselves?
6 #
Deut. 32:41; See Ezek. 21:3-5 Ah, sword of the Lord!
How long till you are quiet?
Put yourself into your scabbard;
rest and be still!
7How can it#47:7 Septuagint, Vulgate; Hebrew you be quiet
# [Ezek. 14:17] when the Lord has given it a charge?
Against #ch. 25:20; [Judg. 1:18] Ashkelon and against the seashore
#
Mic. 6:9
he has appointed it.”
