Psalms 66
66
To the director: A song of praise.
1Everything on earth, shout with joy to God!
2Praise his glorious name!
Honor him with songs of praise!
3Tell God, “Your works are wonderful!
Your great power makes your enemies bow down in fear before you.
4Let the whole world worship you.
Let everyone sing praises to your name.” Selah
5Look at what God has done!
These things amaze us.
6He changed the sea to dry land,#66:6 changed the sea to dry land This was with Moses at the Red Sea. See Ex. 14.
and his people went across the water#66:6 water Literally, “river.” Although this word is not used for the Jordan River elsewhere, some think this line may refer to the later crossing there. See Josh. 3:14-17. on foot.
So let’s celebrate because of what he has done!
7He rules the world with his great power.
He watches people everywhere.
No one can rebel against him. Selah
8People, praise our God.
Sing loud songs of praise to him.
9He continues to give us life,
and he keeps us from falling.
10God, you have tested us, as people test silver with fire.
11You let us be trapped.
You put heavy burdens on us.
12You let our enemies run over us.
We went through fire and water,
but you brought us to a safe place.
13-14So I bring sacrifices to your Temple.
When I was in trouble, I asked for help
and made promises to you.
Now I am giving you what I promised.
15I bring my best sheep as burnt offerings.
I offer the smoke from them up to you.
I give you sacrifices of bulls and goats. Selah
16All you people who worship God,
come and I will tell you what he has done for me.
17-18I cried out to him for help,
and I praised him.
If I had been hiding sin in my heart,
the Lord would not have listened to me.
19But God did listen to me;
he heard my prayer.
20Praise God!
He did not turn away from me—he listened to my prayer.
He continues to show his love to me!

Psalm 66
For the choir director; a song; a psalm.
1Shout happily to God, all the earth!
2Make music to praise the glory of his name.
Make his praise glorious.
3Say to God,
“How awe-inspiring are your deeds!
Your power is so great that your enemies will cringe in front of you.
4The whole earth will worship you.
It will make music to praise you.
It will make music to praise your name.” Selah
5Come and see what God has done—
his awe-inspiring deeds for Adam’s descendants.
6He turned the sea into dry land.
They crossed the river on foot.
We rejoiced because of what he did there.
7He rules forever with his might.
His eyes watch the nations.
Rebels will not be able to oppose him. Selah
8Thank our God, you nations.
Make the sound of his praise heard.
9He has kept us alive
and has not allowed us to fall.
10You have tested us, O God.
You have refined us in the same way silver is refined.
11You have trapped us in a net.
You have laid burdens on our backs.
12You let people ride over our heads.
We went through fire and water,
but then you brought us out and refreshed us.
13I will come into your temple with burnt offerings.
I will keep my vows to you,
14the vows made by my lips and spoken by my ⌞own⌟ mouth
when I was in trouble.
15I will offer you a sacrifice of fattened livestock for burnt offerings
with the smoke from rams.
I will offer cattle and goats. Selah
16Come and listen, all who fear God,
and I will tell you what he has done for me.
17With my mouth I cried out to him.
High praise was on my tongue.
18If I had thought about doing anything sinful,
the Lord would not have listened ⌞to me⌟.
19But God has heard me.
He has paid attention to my prayer.
20Thanks be to God,
who has not rejected my prayer
or taken away his mercy from me.
