Psalms 6
6
To the director: With stringed instruments, on the sheminith. A song of David.
1Lord, don’t punish me.
Don’t correct me when you are so angry.
2Lord, be kind to me.
I am sick and weak.
Heal me, Lord!
My bones are shaking.
3I am trembling all over.
Lord, how long until you heal me?#6:3 Lord … heal me Literally, “As for you, Lord, how long?”
4Lord, come back and make me strong again.
Save me because you are so loyal and kind.
5If I am dead, I cannot sing about you.
Those in the grave don’t praise you.
6Lord, I am so weak.
I cried to you all night.
My pillow is soaked;
my bed is dripping wet from my tears.
7My enemies have caused me such sorrow
that my eyes are worn out from crying.
8Go away, you wicked people,
because the Lord has heard my cries.
9The Lord has heard my request for mercy.
The Lord has accepted my prayer.
10All my enemies will be filled with fear and shame.
They will be sorry when disgrace suddenly comes upon them.

Psalm 6
6
A Prayer for Mercy in Time of Trouble
To the chief Musician on Neg´inoth upon Shem´inith, A Psalm of David.
1 #
Ps 38.1. O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger,
neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
2Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak:
O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed.
3My soul is also sore vexed:
but thou, O Lord, how long?
4Return, O Lord, deliver my soul:
oh save me for thy mercies' sake.
5For in death there is no remembrance of thee:
in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
6I am weary with my groaning;
all the night make I my bed to swim;
I water my couch with my tears.
7Mine eye is consumed because of grief;
it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.
8 #
Matt 7.23; Luke 13.27. Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity;
for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping.
9The Lord hath heard my supplication;
the Lord will receive my prayer.
10Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed:
let them return and be ashamed suddenly.
