Psalms 48
48
A song of praise from the Korah family.
1The Lord is great!
He is praised throughout the city of our God, his holy mountain.
2His city is such a pleasant place.
It brings joy to people from around the world.
Mount Zion is the true mountain of God.#48:2 true mountain of God Literally, “the summit of Zaphon.” In Canaanite stories, Mt. Zaphon was where the gods lived.
It is the city of the great King.
3In the palaces of that city,
God is known as the fortress.
4Once some kings met together
and planned an attack against this city.
They marched toward the city,
5but when they saw it, they were amazed.
They all panicked and ran away.
6Fear grabbed them;
they trembled like a woman giving birth.
7God, with a strong east wind,
you wrecked their big ships.
8Yes, we heard the stories about your power.
But we also saw it in the city of our God, the city of the Lord All-Powerful.
God makes that city strong forever. Selah
9God, in your Temple we remember your loving kindness.
10Your name is known everywhere, God,
and people throughout the earth praise you.
You have shown that you do what is right.
11Mount Zion is happy,
and the towns of Judah rejoice, because your decisions are fair.
12Walk around Jerusalem,
and count its towers.
13Look at the tall walls,
and see the palaces.
Then you can tell the next generation about them.
14This God is our God forever and ever.
He will lead us from now to the end of time!

1A song. A psalm of the descendants of Korach:
2Great is Adonai
and greatly to be praised,
in the city of our God,
his holy mountain,
3beautiful in its elevation,
the joy of all the earth,
Mount Tziyon, in the far north,
the city of the great king.
4In its citadels God
has been revealed as a strong defense.
5For the kings met by agreement;
together they advanced.
6They saw and were filled with consternation;
terrified, they took to flight.
7Trembling took hold of them,
pains like those of a woman in labor,
8as when the wind out of the east
wrecks the “Tarshish” ships.
9We heard it, and now we see for ourselves
in the city of Adonai-Tzva’ot,
in the city of our God.
May God establish it forever. (Selah)
10God, within your temple
we meditate on your grace.
11God, your praise, like your name,
extends to the ends of the earth.
Your right hand is filled with righteousness.
12Let Mount Tziyon rejoice,
let the daughters of Y’hudah be glad,
because of your judgment [on the enemy].
13Walk through Tziyon, go all around it;
count how many towers it has.
14Note its ramparts, pass through its citadels,
so that you can tell generations to come
15that such is God, our God forever;
he will guide us eternally.
