Psalms 46
46
To the director: A song from the Korah family. Use the alamoth.#Psalm 46 alamoth This might be a musical instrument, a special way of tuning an instrument, a music style, or one of the groups that played harps in the Temple orchestra. See 1 Chron. 15:21. A song.
1God is our protection and source of strength.
He is always ready to help us in times of trouble.
2So we are not afraid when the earth quakes
and the mountains fall into the sea.
3We are not afraid when the seas become rough and dark
and the mountains tremble. Selah
4There is a river whose streams bring happiness to God’s city,
to the holy city of God Most High.
5God is in that city, so it will never be destroyed.
He is there to help even before sunrise.
6Nations will shake with fear and kingdoms will fall
when God shouts and makes the earth move.
7The Lord All-Powerful is with us.
The God of Jacob is our place of safety. Selah
8Look at the powerful things the Lord has done.
See the awesome things he has done on earth.
9He stops wars all over the world.
He breaks the soldiers’ bows, shatters their spears, and burns their shields.#46:9 shields Or “chariots.”
10God says, “Stop fighting and know that I am God!
I am the one who defeats the nations;
I am the one who controls the world.”
11The Lord All-Powerful is with us.
The God of Jacob is our place of safety. Selah

1For the leader. By the descendants of Korach. On ‘alamot [high-pitched musical instruments?]. A song:
2God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
3Therefore we are unafraid,
even if the earth gives way,
even if the mountains tumble
into the depths of the sea,
4even if its waters rage and foam,
and mountains shake at its turbulence. (Selah)
5There is a river whose streams
gladden the city of God,
the holy habitation of ‘Elyon —
6God is in the city.
It will not be moved —
when daybreak comes, God will help it.
7Nations were in turmoil,
kingdoms were moved;
his voice thundered forth,
and the earth melted away.
8Adonai-Tzva’ot is with us,
our fortress, the God of Ya‘akov. (Selah)
9Come and see the works of Adonai,
the astounding deeds he has done on the earth.
10To the ends of the earth he makes wars cease —
he breaks the bow, snaps the spear,
burns the shields in the fire.
11“Desist, and learn that I am God,
supreme over the nations,
supreme over the earth.”
12Adonai-Tzva’ot is with us,
our fortress, the God of Ya‘akov. (Selah)
