The Borders of Canaan
1The Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 2“Speak to the Israelites and tell them this: You will soon enter the land of Canaan. I am giving you that land to be your very own. These will be its borders: 3On the south, you will get part of the desert of Zin near Edom. Your southern border will start at the south end of the Dead Sea. 4It will cross south of Scorpion Pass. It will go through the town of Zin to Kadesh Barnea and then to Hazar Addar, and then it will pass through Azmon. 5From Azmon the border will go to the River of Egypt,#34:5 River of Egypt That is, the stream called “Wadi El-Arish.” and it will end at the Mediterranean Sea. 6Your western border will be the Mediterranean Sea. 7Your northern border will begin at the Mediterranean Sea and go to Mount Hor. 8From Mount Hor it will go to Lebo Hamath, and then to Zedad. 9Then that border will go to Ziphron and it will end at Hazar Enan. So that will be your northern border. 10Your eastern border will begin at Enan and it will go to Shepham. 11From Shepham the border will go east of Ain to Riblah. The border will continue along the hills by Lake Galilee.#34:11 Lake Galilee Literally, “Kinnereth Lake.” 12Then the border will continue along the Jordan River. It will end at the Dead Sea. These are the borders around your country.”
13So Moses gave this command to the Israelites, “That is the land that you will get. You will throw lots to divide the land among the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh, as the Lord commanded. 14The tribes of Reuben and Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh have already taken their land. 15These two and a half tribes took the land near Jericho—they took the land east of the Jordan River.”
16Then the Lord spoke to Moses. He said, 17“These are the men who will help you divide the land: Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, 18and the leaders of all the tribes. There will be one leader from each tribe. These men will divide the land. 19These are the names of the leaders:
from the tribe of Judah—Caleb son of Jephunneh;
20from the tribe of Simeon—Shemuel son of Ammihud;
21from the tribe of Benjamin—Elidad son of Kislon;
22from the tribe of Dan—Bukki son of Jogli;
23from the descendants of Joseph;
from the tribe of Manasseh—Hanniel son of Ephod;
24from the tribe of Ephraim—Kemuel son of Shiphtan;
25from the tribe of Zebulun—Elizaphan son of Parnach;
26from the tribe of Issachar—Paltiel son of Azzan;
27from the tribe of Asher—Ahihud son of Shelomi;
28from the tribe of Naphtali—Pedahel son of Ammihud.”
29The Lord chose these men to divide the land of Canaan among the Israelites.

The Boundaries of the Land
1The LORD gave Moses 2the following instructions for the people of Israel: “When you enter Canaan, the land which I am giving you, the borders of your territory will be as follows. 3The southern border will extend from the wilderness of Zin along the border of Edom. It will begin on the east at the southern end of the Dead Sea. 4Then it will turn southwards towards Akrabbim Pass and continue on through Zin as far south as Kadesh Barnea. Then it will turn north-west to Hazar Addar and on to Azmon, 5where it will turn towards the valley at the border of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean.
6“The western border will be the Mediterranean Sea.
7“The northern border will follow a line from the Mediterranean to Mount Hor 8and from there to Hamath Pass. It will continue to Zedad 9and to Ziphron, and will end at Hazar Enan.
10“The eastern border will follow a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham. 11It will then go south to Harbel, east of Ain, and on to the hills on the eastern shore of Lake Galilee, 12then south along the River Jordan to the Dead Sea.
“These will be the four borders of your land.”

The Leaders Responsible for Dividing the Land
