Exodus 31

Bezalel and Oholiab
1Then the Lord said to Moses, 2“I have chosen a man from the tribe of Judah to do some special work for me. His name is Bezalel son of Uri son of Hur. 3I have filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God—I have given him the skill and knowledge to do all kinds of things. 4He is a very good designer. And he can make things from gold, silver, and bronze. 5He can cut and set beautiful jewels. And he can work with wood. He can do all kinds of work. 6I have also chosen Oholiab to work with him. Oholiab is the son of Ahisamach from the tribe of Dan. And I have given skills to all the other workers so that they can make everything that I have commanded you:
7the Meeting Tent;
the Box of the Agreement;
the mercy-cover that is on it;
8the table and everything on it;
the pure gold lampstand and everything used with it;
the altar for burning incense;
9the altar for burning offerings and the things used at the altar;
the bowl and the base under it;
10the special clothes for Aaron the priest;
the special clothes for Aaron’s sons when they serve as priests;
11the sweet-smelling anointing oil;
the sweet-smelling incense for the Holy Place.
These workers must make everything the way that I have commanded you.”
The Sabbath
12Then the Lord said to Moses, 13“Tell the Israelites this: ‘You must follow the rules about my special days of rest. You must do this because they will be a sign between you and me for all generations. This will show you that I, the Lord, have made you my special people.
14“‘Make the Sabbath a special day. If someone treats the Sabbath like any other day, that person must be killed. Whoever works on the Sabbath day must be separated from their people. 15There are six other days in the week for working. But the seventh day is a very special day of rest. That is the special day to honor the Lord. Anyone who works during the Sabbath must be killed. 16The Israelites must remember the Sabbath and make it a special day. They must continue to do this forever. It is an agreement between them and me that will continue forever. 17The Sabbath will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever.’” (The Lord worked six days and made the sky and the earth, and on the seventh day he rested and relaxed.)
18When God finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two stone tablets of the agreement. God had written on the stones with his finger.

The Call of Bezaleel and Aholiab
(Exodus 35.30—36.1)
1And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 2See, I have called by name Bez´aleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: 3and I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4to devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 5and in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship. 6And I, behold, I have given with him Aho´li-ab, the son of Ahis´amach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise-hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee; 7the tabernacle of the congregation, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the tabernacle, 8and the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of incense, 9and the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and the laver and his foot, 10and the clothes of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest's office, 11and the anointing oil, and sweet incense for the holy place: according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do.
The Sabbath as a Sign
12And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, 13Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you. 14Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you. Every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 15#Exod 20.8-11; 23.12; 34.21; 35.2; Lev 23.3; Deut 5.12-14. Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. 16Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. 17It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
The Golden Calf
(Deuteronomy 9.6-29)
18And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Si´nai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.
