Song of Songs 3:1

Biola University's Center for Christianity, Culture & the Arts is pleased to share the 2024 Advent Project, a daily devotional series celebrating the beauty and meaning of the Advent season through art, music, poetry, prayer, Scripture, and written devotions. The project starts on the first day of Advent and continues through Epiphany. Our goal is to help individuals quiet their hearts and enter into a daily routine of worship and reflection during this meaningful but often hectic season. Jewish people read the Song of Songs every year at the Passover, seeing these poems about the union of two lovers as a sort of commentary on Exodus — Israel escaped Egypt to enter into covenant union with Yahweh at Mount Sinai. In this plan we are going to look at some of the key themes shared between the Song of Songs and Exodus, and how Jesus, the Church’s groom, rescues us from slavery and unites us with Himself.

This is the fifteenth installment of our Bible reading plan, following a lectionary-style pattern with daily readings from the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament.
