Romans 10
10
1Dear friends, my greatest wish and my prayer to God is for the people of Israel to be saved. 2I know they love God, but they don't understand 3what makes people acceptable to him. So they refuse to trust God, and they try to be acceptable by obeying the Law. 4But Christ makes the Law no longer necessary#10.4 But Christ makes the Law no longer necessary: Or “But Christ gives the full meaning to the Law.” for those who become acceptable to God by faith.
Anyone Can Be Saved
5 #
Lv 18.5. Moses said a person could become acceptable to God by obeying the Law. He did this when he wrote, “If you want to live, you must do all the Law commands.”
6 #
Dt 30.12-14. But people whose faith makes them acceptable to God will never ask, “Who will go up to heaven to bring Christ down?” 7Neither will they ask, “Who will go down into the world of the dead to raise him to life?”
8All who are acceptable because of their faith simply say, “The message is as near as your mouth or your heart.” And this is the same message we preach about faith. 9So you will be saved, if you honestly say, “Jesus is Lord,” and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from death. 10God will accept you and save you, if you truly believe this and tell it to others.
11 # Is 28.16 (LXX). The Scriptures say no one who has faith will be disappointed, 12no matter if that person is a Jew or a Gentile. There is only one Lord, and he is generous to everyone who asks for his help. 13#Jl 2.32. All who call out to the Lord will be saved.
14How can people have faith in the Lord and ask him to save them, if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear, unless someone tells them? 15#Is 52.7. And how can anyone tell them without being sent by the Lord? The Scriptures say it is a beautiful sight to see even the feet of someone coming to preach the good news. 16#Is 53.1 (LXX). Yet not everyone has believed the message. For example, the prophet Isaiah asked, “Lord, has anyone believed what we said?”
17No one can have faith without hearing the message about Christ. 18#Ps 19.4 (LXX). But am I saying that the people of Israel did not hear? No, I am not! The Scriptures say,
“The message was told
everywhere on earth.
It was announced
all over the world.”
19 #
Dt 32.21. Did the people of Israel understand or not? Moses answered this question when he told that the Lord had said,
“I will make Israel jealous
of people
who are a nation
of nobodies.
I will make them angry
with people
who don't understand
a thing.”
20 # Is 65.1 (LXX). Isaiah was fearless enough to tell that the Lord had said,
“I was found by people
who were not looking
for me.
I appeared to the ones
who were not asking
about me.”
21 # Is 65.2 (LXX). And Isaiah said about the people of Israel,
“All day long the Lord
has reached out
to people who are stubborn
and refuse to obey.”

Romans 10
10
1Brothers,#10:1 Or Brothers and sisters my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. 2For I bear them witness that #See Acts 21:20 they have a zeal for God, #[ch. 9:31]but not according to knowledge. 3For, being ignorant of #See ch. 1:17the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 4For #[Matt. 5:17; Gal. 3:24]Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.#10:4 Or end of the law, that everyone who believes may be justified
The Message of Salvation to All
5For #Cited from Lev. 18:5 Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that #Neh. 9:29; Ezek. 20:11, 13, 21; Matt. 19:17; Luke 10:28; Gal. 3:12; [ch. 7:10]the person who does the commandments shall live by them. 6But #See ch. 9:30 the righteousness based on faith says, #[Deut. 30:12, 13]“Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7“or ‘Who will descend into the #See Rev. 9:1 abyss?’” (that is, #Heb. 13:20to bring Christ up from the dead). 8But what does it say? #Cited from Deut. 30:14“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9because, if #Matt. 10:32; Luke 12:8; [1 Cor. 12:3; Phil. 2:11] you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and #See Acts 16:31 believe in your heart #[1 Pet. 1:21]; See Acts 2:24that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11For the Scripture says, #See ch. 9:33“Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12#See ch. 3:22, 29 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; #Acts 10:36 for the same Lord is Lord of all, #See ch. 2:4bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13For #Acts 2:21; Cited from Joel 2:32“everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him #Eph. 4:21; [John 9:36; 17:20] of whom they have never heard?#10:14 Or him whom they have never heard And how are they to hear #[Acts 8:31; Titus 1:3]without someone preaching? 15And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, #Cited from Isa. 52:7; [Nah. 1:15; Eph. 6:15]“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16But #ch. 3:3; Heb. 4:2 they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, #John 12:38; Cited from Isa. 53:1“Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” 17So #Gal. 3:2, 5faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
18But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for
# Cited from Ps. 19:4; [1 Thess. 1:8] “Their voice has gone out #[Mark 16:15]; See Matt. 24:14to all the earth,
and their words to the ends of the world.”
19But I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says,
# Cited from Deut. 32:21 “I will #ch. 11:11, 14 make you jealous of those who are not a nation;
with a #[Titus 3:3]foolish nation I will make you angry.”
20Then Isaiah is so bold as to say,
# Cited from Isa. 65:1; [ch. 9:30] “I have been found by those who did not seek me;
I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.”
21But of Israel he says, #Cited from Isa. 65:2“All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”
