When the Lord roars
from Jerusalem,
pasturelands and Mount Carmel
dry up and turn brown.
Judgment on Syria

for countless crimes,
and I won't change my mind.

over the people of Gilead.
4Now I will burn down the palaces
and fortresses of King Hazael
and of King Benhadad.#1.4 Hazael … Benhadad: Two Syrian kings.
5I will break through
the gates of Damascus.
I will destroy the people#1.5 people: Or “king.”
of Wicked Valley#1.5 Wicked Valley: The Hebrew text has “Aven Valley,” probably the fertile valley between the Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon mountains.
and the ruler of Beth-Eden.#1.5 I will … Beth-Eden: Or “I will destroy the people of Wicked Valley and the king who rules from Beth-Eden.” Beth-Eden was a city-state on the banks of the Euphrates River.
Then the Syrians will be dragged
as prisoners to Kir.#1.5 Kir: The exact location of this country is not known; in 9.7 Amos refers to Kir as the original home of the Syrians, and so the verse probably means that the Syrians will lose everything they have gained as a people.
I, the Lord, have spoken!
Judgment on Philistia

for countless crimes,
and I won't change my mind.
They dragged off my people#1.6 my people: The people of Israel.
from town after town
to sell them as slaves
to the Edomites.
7That's why I will burn down
the walls and fortresses
of the city of Gaza.
8I will destroy the king#1.8 king: Or “people.” of Ashdod
and the ruler of Ashkelon.
I will strike down Ekron,#1.8 Ashdod … Ashkelon … Ekron: Philistine cities.
and that will be the end
of the Philistines.

Judgment on Phoenicia

for countless crimes,
and I won't change my mind.
They broke their treaty
and dragged off my people#1.9 my people: See the note at 1.6.
from town after town
to sell them as slaves
to the Edomites.
10That's why I will send flames
to burn down the city of Tyre
along with its fortresses.
Judgment on Edom

I will punish Edom
for countless crimes,
and I won't change my mind.
They killed their own relatives#1.11 their own relatives: The Edomites were descendants of Esau, the brother of Jacob, the ancestor of the Israelites.
and were so terribly furious
that they showed no mercy.
12Now I will send fire to wipe out
the fortresses of Teman
and Bozrah.#1.12 Teman and Bozrah: These stand for all of Edom; Teman may have been a city or a district. Bozrah, the chief city of northern Edom, was 48 kilometers southeast of the Dead Sea.
Judgment on Ammon

Jr 49.1-6; Ez 21.28-32; 25.1-7; Zep 2.8-11. The Lord said:
I will punish Ammon
for countless crimes,
and I won't change my mind.
In Gilead they ripped open
pregnant women,
just to take the land.
14Now I will send fire to destroy
the walls and fortresses
of Rabbah.#1.14 Rabbah: The capital city of Ammon.
Enemies will shout and attack
like a whirlwind.
15Ammon's king and leaders
will be dragged away.
I, the Lord, have spoken!

1Ang#2 Ha. 15:1-7; 2 Cro. 26:1-23; 2 Ha. 14:23-29. aklat na ito ay naglalaman ng mga pahayag ni Amos, isang pastol na taga-Tekoa. Ang mga bagay na tungkol sa Israel ay ipinahayag sa kanya ng Diyos dalawang taon bago lumindol. Si Uzias noon ang hari ng Juda, at si Jeroboam namang anak ni Joas ang hari ng Israel.
2Sinabi#Joel 3:16. ni Amos,
“Dumadagundong mula sa Bundok ng Zion ang tinig ni Yahweh,
mula sa Jerusalem ang kanyang tinig ay naririnig.
Natutuyo ang mga pastulan,
nalalanta pati ang mga damo sa Bundok Carmel.”
Paghatol sa mga Karatig-bansa ng Israel
Sa Siria
3Ganito#Isa. 17:1-3; Jer. 49:23-27; Zac. 9:1. ang sabi ni Yahweh:
“Paulit-ulit na nagkasala ang mga taga-Damasco,
kaya sila'y paparusahan ko.
Pinagmalupitan nila ang Gilead,
dinurog nila ito sa giikang bakal.
4Susunugin ko ang palasyo ni Hazael,
at tutupukin ko ang mga tanggulan ni Ben-hadad.
5Wawasakin ko ang pintuan ng Lunsod ng Damasco;
pupuksain ko ang mga taga libis ng Aven,
pati ang may hawak ng setro sa Beth-eden;
ang mga taga-Siria naman ay dadalhing-bihag sa Kir.”
Sa Filistia

tutupukin ko ang mga tanggulan doon.
8Aalisin ko ang mga pinuno ng Asdod,
at ang may hawak ng setro sa Ashkelon.
Hahanapin ko ang Ekron,
at lilipulin ko ang mga Filisteo roon.”
Sa Tiro

Sa Edom

“Paulit-ulit na nagkasala ang mga taga-Edom,
kaya sila'y paparusahan ko.
Hinabol nila ng tagâ ang mga kapatid nilang Israelita
at hindi sila naawa kahit bahagya.
Hindi naglubag ang kanilang poot kailanman.
12Susunugin ko ang Teman,
tutupukin ko naman ang mga tanggulan sa Bozra.”
Sa Ammon
13Ganito#Jer. 49:1-6; Eze. 21:28-32; 25:1-7; Zef. 2:8-11. ang sabi ni Yahweh:
“Paulit-ulit na nagkasala ang mga taga-Ammon,
kaya sila'y paparusahan ko.
Sa labis nilang kasakiman sa lupain,
nilaslas nila ang tiyan ng mga buntis sa Gilead.
14Susunugin ko ang mga pader sa Rabba;
tutupukin ko ang mga tanggulan doon.
Magsisigawan sila sa panahon ng labanan;
mag-aalimpuyo ang labanan tulad ng isang bagyo.
15Mabibihag ang kanilang hari,
gayundin ang kanyang mga tauhan.”
