Psalms 34

Psalm 34#34.0 Ps 34 is an alphabetic acrostic poem; see the note at Pss 9–10.
Of David, when he pretended to be crazy before Abimelech, who banished him so that he left.
1I will bless the LORD at all times;
his praise will always be in my mouth.
2I#34.2 Or my soul; also in 34:22 praise the LORD—
let the suffering listen and rejoice.
3Magnify the LORD with me!
Together let us lift his name up high!
4I sought the LORD and he answered me.
He delivered me from all my fears.
5Those who look to God will shine;
their faces are never ashamed.
6This suffering person cried out:
the LORD listened and saved him from every trouble.
7On every side, the LORD’s messenger protects those who honor God; and he delivers them.
8Taste and see how good the LORD is!
The one who takes refuge in him is truly happy!
9You who are the LORD’s holy ones, honor him,
because those who honor him don’t lack a thing.
10Even strong young lions go without and get hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
11Come, children, listen to me.
Let me teach you how to honor the LORD:
12Do you love life;
do you relish the chance to enjoy good things?
13Then you must keep your tongue from evil
and keep your lips from speaking lies!
14Turn away from evil! Do good!
Seek peace and go after it!
15The LORD’s eyes watch the righteous,
his ears listen to their cries for help.
16But the LORD’s face is set against those who do evil,
to eliminate even the memory of them from the earth.
17When the righteous cry out, the LORD listens;
he delivers them from all their troubles.
18The LORD is close to the brokenhearted;
he saves those whose spirits are crushed.
19The righteous have many problems,
but the LORD delivers them from every one.
20He protects all their bones;
not even one will be broken.
21But just one problem will kill the wicked,
and those who hate the righteous will be held responsible.
22The LORD saves his servants’ lives;
all those who take refuge in him
won’t be held responsible for anything.

In Praise of God's Goodness#Ps 34 Hebrew title: By David, who left the presence of Abimelech after pretending to be mad and being sent away by him.#1 Sam 21.13–15
1I will always thank the LORD;
I will never stop praising him.
2I will praise him for what he has done;
may all who are oppressed listen and be glad!
3Proclaim with me the LORD's greatness;
let us praise his name together!
4I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me;
he freed me from all my fears.
5The oppressed look to him and are glad;
they will never be disappointed.
6The helpless call to him, and he answers;
he saves them from all their troubles.
7His angel guards those who honour the LORD
and rescues them from danger.

1 Pet 2.3
Find out for yourself how good the LORD is.
Happy are those who find safety with him.
9Honour the LORD, all his people;
those who obey him have all they need.
10Even lions go hungry for lack of food,
but those who obey the LORD lack nothing good.
11Come, my young friends, and listen to me,
and I will teach you to honour the LORD.

1 Pet 3.10–12
Would you like to enjoy life?
Do you want long life and happiness?
13Then hold back from speaking evil
and from telling lies.
14Turn away from evil and do good;
strive for peace with all your heart.
15The LORD watches over the righteous
and listens to their cries;
16but he opposes those who do evil,
so that when they die, they are soon forgotten.
17The righteous call to the LORD, and he listens;
he rescues them from all their troubles.
18The LORD is near to those who are discouraged;
he saves those who have lost all hope.
19Good people suffer many troubles,
but the LORD saves them from them all;
20 #
Jn 19.36
the LORD preserves them completely;
not one of their bones is broken.
21Evil will kill the wicked;
those who hate the righteous will be punished.
22The LORD will save his people;
those who go to him for protection will be spared.
