Psalm 32
A maskil#32.0 Perhaps instruction; it also appears in Pss 42, 44–45, 52–55, 74, 78, 88–89, 142; cf 47:7; the root is used in Ps 32:8. of David.
1The one whose wrongdoing is forgiven,
whose sin is covered over, is truly happy!
2The one the LORD doesn’t consider guilty—
in whose spirit there is no dishonesty—
that one is truly happy!
3When I kept quiet, my bones wore out;
I was groaning all day long—
every day, every night!—
4because your hand was heavy upon me.
My energy was sapped as if in a summer drought. Selah
5So I admitted my sin to you;
I didn’t conceal my guilt.
“I’ll confess my sins to the LORD, ” is what I said.
Then you removed the guilt of my sin. Selah
6That’s why all the faithful should pray to you during troubled times,#32.6 Correction; MT at a time of finding only
so that a great flood of water won’t reach them.
7You are my secret hideout!
You protect me from trouble.
You surround me with songs of rescue! Selah
8I will instruct you and teach you
about the direction you should go.
I’ll advise you and keep my eye on you.
9Don’t be like some senseless horse or mule,
whose movement must be controlled
with a bit and a bridle.#32.9 Heb uncertain
Don’t be anything like that!#32.9 Heb uncertain
10The pain of the wicked is severe,
but faithful love surrounds the one who trusts the LORD.
11You who are righteous, rejoice in the LORD and be glad!
All you whose hearts are right, sing out in joy!

The Joy of Forgiveness
1 #
Ro 4.7,8. Our Lord, you bless everyone
whose sins you forgive
and wipe away.
2You bless them by saying,
“You told me your sins,
without trying to hide them,
and now I forgive you.”
3Before I confessed my sins,
my bones felt limp,
and I groaned all day long.
4Night and day your hand
weighed heavily on me,
and my strength was gone
as in the summer heat.
5So I confessed my sins
and told them all to you.
I said, “I'll tell the Lord
each one of my sins.”
Then you forgave me
and took away my guilt.
6We worship you, Lord,
and we should always pray
whenever we find out
that we have sinned.#32.6 whenever … sinned: Hebrew “at a time of finding only.”
Then we won't be swept away
by a raging flood.
7You are my hiding place!
You protect me from trouble,
and you put songs in my heart
because you have saved me.
8You said to me,
“I will point out the road
that you should follow.
I will be your teacher
and watch over you.
9Don't be stupid
like horses and mules
that must be led with ropes
to make them obey.”
10All kinds of troubles
will strike the wicked,
but your kindness shields those
who trust you, Lord.
11And so your good people
should celebrate and shout.
