Tehillim (Psalms) 97
97
1יהוה shall reign. The earth rejoices. Many isles are glad!
2Clouds and darkness all around Him, Righteousness and right-ruling are the foundation of His throne.
3Fire goes before Him, And burns up His adversaries round about.
4His lightnings shall light the world, The earth shall see and tremble.
5The mountains shall melt like wax before the face of יהוה, Before the face of the Master of all the earth.
6The heavens shall declare His righteousness, And all the peoples shall see His esteem.
7All are put to shame who serve carved images, Those boasting of matters of naught. Bow yourselves to Him, all you mighty ones.
8Tsiyon shall hear and be glad, And the daughters of Yehuḏah rejoice Because of Your right-rulings, O יהוה.
9For You, יהוה, are the Most High over all the earth, You shall be greatly exalted, over all mighty ones.
10You who love יהוה, hate evil! He guards the lives of His lovingly-committed ones, He delivers them out of the hand of the wrong.
11Light is sown for the righteous, And gladness for the upright in heart.
12Rejoice in יהוה, you righteous, And give thanks at the remembrance of His Set-apartness.

Psalms 97

A Hymn About the Lord’s Power
1The Lord is king. Let the earth rejoice;
faraway lands should be glad.
2Thick, dark clouds surround him.
His kingdom is built on what is right and fair.
3A fire goes before him
and burns up his enemies all around.
4His lightning lights up the world;
when the people see it, they tremble.
5The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
before the Lord of all the earth.
6The heavens tell about his goodness,
and all the people see his glory.
7Those who worship idols should be ashamed;
they brag about their gods.
All the gods should worship the Lord.
8When Jerusalem hears this, she is glad,
and the towns of Judah rejoice.
They are happy because of your judgments, Lord.
9You are the Lord Most High over all the earth;
you are supreme over all gods.
10People who love the Lord hate evil.
The Lord watches over those who follow him
and frees them from the power of the wicked.
11Light shines on those who do right;
joy belongs to those who are honest.
12Rejoice in the Lord, you who do right.
Praise his holy name.
