Tehillim (Psalms) 107
107
1Give thanks to יהוה! For He is good, For His loving-commitment is everlasting.
2Let the redeemed of יהוה say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,
3And gathered out of the lands, From east and from west, From north and from south.
4They wandered in a wilderness, in a desert way; They found no city to dwell in.
5Hungry and thirsty, Their being in them grew faint.
6Then they cried out to יהוה in their distress, He delivered them out of their troubles.
7And He guided them by the right way, To go to a city to settle.
8Let them give thanks to יהוה for His loving-commitment, And His wonders to the children of men!
9For He has satisfied a longing being, And has filled the hungry being with goodness.
10Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, Bound in affliction and irons,
11Because they rebelled against the words of Ěl, And despised the counsel of the Most High.
12And He humbled their heart by toil; They stumbled, and there was no one to help.
13And they cried out to יהוה in their distress, And He saved them out of their troubles.
14He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, And He broke their chains in pieces.
15Let them give thanks to יהוה for His loving-commitment, And His wonders to the children of men!
16For He has broken the gates of bronze, And He cut the bars of iron in two.
17Fools, because of their transgression, And because of their crookednesses, were afflicted.
18Their being loathed all food, And they drew near to the gates of death,
19And cried out to יהוה in their distress, He saved them out of their troubles.
20He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions.
21Let them give thanks to יהוה for His loving-commitment, And His wonders to the children of men!
22And let them slaughter slaughterings of thanksgiving, And relate His works with rejoicing.
23Those who go down to the sea in ships, Doing work in many waters,
24They see the works of יהוה, And His wonders in the deep.
25For He commands and raises the stormy wind, Which lifts up the waves of the sea.
26They go up to the heavens, They go down to the depths; Their being is melted because of evil.
27They celebrate and stagger like a drunkard, And all their wisdom is swallowed up.
28Then they cry out to יהוה in their distress, And He brings them out of their troubles.
29He caused the storm to be still, So that its waves were silent.
30And they rejoice because they are hushed; And He leads them to the haven of their delight.
31Let them give thanks to יהוה for His loving-commitment, And His wonders to the children of men!
32And let them exalt Him in the assembly of the people, And praise Him in the seat of the elders.
33He makes rivers become a wilderness, And the fountains of water become a dry ground;
34A land of fruit becomes a salty desert, For the evil of those who dwell in it.
35He makes a wilderness become a pool of water, And dry land become fountains of waters.
36And He causes the hungry to dwell there, And they build a city to settle in,
37And they sow fields and plant vineyards, And they make fruits of increase.
38And He blesses them, And they increase greatly; And He lets not their cattle diminish.
39But when they are diminished and brought low Through oppression, evil and sorrow,
40He pours scorn on nobles, And causes them to wander in a pathless waste;
41But He raises the poor up from affliction, And makes their clans like a flock.
42The straight ones see, and rejoice, And all unrighteousness shuts its mouth.
43Who is wise? Then let him observe these matters! Let them understand the loving-commitments of יהוה.

Book V: Psalms 107–150
1Give thanks to Adonai; for he is good,
for his grace continues forever.
2Let those redeemed by Adonai say it,
those he redeemed from the power of the foe.
3He gathered them from the lands,
from the east and from the west,
from the north and from the sea.
4They wandered in the desert, on paths through the wastes,
without finding any inhabited city.
5They were hungry and thirsty,
their life was ebbing away.
6In their trouble they cried to Adonai,
and he rescued them from their distress.
7He led them by a direct path
to a city where they could live.
8Let them give thanks to Adonai for his grace,
for his wonders bestowed on humanity!
9For he has satisfied the hungry,
filled the starving with good.
10Some lived in darkness, in death-dark gloom,
bound in misery and iron chains,
11because they defied God’s word,
scorned the counsel of the Most High.
12So he humbled their hearts by hard labor;
when they stumbled, no one came to their aid.
13In their trouble they cried to Adonai,
and he rescued them from their distress.
14He led them from darkness, from death-dark gloom,
shattering their chains.
15Let them give thanks to Adonai for his grace,
for his wonders bestowed on humanity!
16For he shattered bronze doors
and cut through iron bars.
17There were foolish people who suffered affliction
because of their crimes and sins;
18they couldn’t stand to eat anything;
they were near the gates of death.
19In their trouble they cried to Adonai,
and he rescued them from their distress;
20he sent his word and healed them,
he delivered them from destruction.
21Let them give thanks to Adonai for his grace,
for his wonders bestowed on humanity!
22Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving
and proclaim his great deeds with songs of joy.
23Those who go down to the sea in ships,
plying their trade on the great ocean,
24saw the works of Adonai,
his wonders in the deep.
25For at his word the storm-wind arose,
lifting up towering waves.
26The sailors were raised up to the sky,
then plunged into the depths.
At the danger, their courage failed them,
27they reeled and staggered like drunk men,
and all their skill was swallowed up.
28In their trouble they cried to Adonai,
and he rescued them from their distress.
29He silenced the storm and stilled its waves,
30and they rejoiced as the sea grew calm.
Then he brought them safely
to their desired port.
31Let them give thanks to Adonai for his grace,
for his wonders bestowed on humanity!
32Let them extol him in the assembly of the people
and praise him in the leaders’ council.
33He turns rivers into desert,
flowing springs into thirsty ground,
34productive land into salt flats,
because the people living there are so wicked.
35But he also turns desert into pools of water,
dry land into flowing springs;
36there he gives the hungry a home,
and they build a city to live in;
37there they sow fields and plant vineyards,
which yield an abundant harvest.
38He blesses them, their numbers grow,
and he doesn’t let their livestock decrease.
39When their numbers fall, and they grow weak,
because of oppression, disaster and sorrow,
40he pours contempt on princes
and leaves them to wander in trackless wastes.
41But the needy he raises up from their distress
and increases their families like sheep.
42When the upright see this, they rejoice;
while the wicked are reduced to silence.
43Let whoever is wise observe these things
and consider Adonai’s loving deeds.
