Wayyiqra (Leviticus) 24
24
1And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
2“Command the children of Yisra’ĕl that they bring to you clear oil of pressed olives for the light, to make the lamps burn continually.
3“Outside the veil of the Witness, in the Tent of Appointment, Aharon is to arrange it from evening until morning before יהוה continually – a law forever throughout your generations.
4“He is to arrange the lamps on the clean gold lampstand before יהוה continually.
5“And you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes with it, two-tenths of an ĕphah in each cake.
6“And you shall set them in two rows, six in a row, on the clean table before יהוה.
7“And you shall put clear frankincense on each row, and it shall be on the bread as a remembrance portion, an offering made by fire to יהוה.
8“On every Sabbath he is to arrange it before יהוה continually, from the children of Yisra’ĕl – an everlasting covenant.
9And it shall be for Aharon and his sons, and they shall eat it in the set-apart place, because it is most set-apart to him from the offerings of יהוה made by fire – an everlasting law.” ”
10And the son of an Yisra’ĕli woman, whose father was a Mitsrian man, went out among the children of Yisra’ĕl. And the Yisra’ĕli woman’s son and a man of Yisra’ĕl strove in the camp.
11And the Yisra’ĕli woman’s son blasphemed the Name, and cursed. So they brought him to Mosheh. Now his mother’s name was Shelomith the daughter of Diḇri, of the tribe of Dan.
12And they put him under guard, that it might be declared to them at the mouth of יהוה.
13And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
14“Bring the one who has cursed outside the camp, and all those who heard him shall lay their hands on his head, and all the congregation shall stone him.
15“And speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘Anyone who curses his Elohim shall bear his sin.
16‘And he who blasphemes the Name of יהוה shall certainly be put to death, and all the congregation certainly stone him, the stranger as well as the native. When he blasphemes the Name, he is put to death.
17‘And a man who strikes the being of any man shall certainly be put to death.
18‘And he who strikes a beast repays it, body for body.
19‘And when a man inflicts a blemish upon his neighbour, as he has done so it is done to him:
20‘Fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he inflicts a blemish upon him, so it is done to him.
21‘And he who strikes a beast repays it, and he who strikes a man to death is put to death.
22‘You are to have one right-ruling, for the stranger and for the native, for I am יהוה your Elohim.’ ”
23And Mosheh spoke to the children of Yisra’ĕl, and they brought the one who cursed outside the camp, and stoned him with stones. And the children of Yisra’ĕl did as יהוה commanded Mosheh.

Leviticus 24

The Lampstand and the Holy Bread
1The Lord said to Moses, 2“Command the Israelites to bring to you pure oil from crushed olives. That oil is for the lamps that must burn without stopping. 3Aaron will keep the light burning in the Meeting Tent before the Lord from evening until morning. This light will be outside the curtain that hangs in front of the Box that holds the Agreement.#24:3 Box that holds the Agreement Literally, “Testimony.” See “Agreement” in the Word List. This law will continue forever. 4Aaron must always keep the lamps burning on the lampstand of pure gold before the Lord.
5“Take fine flour and bake twelve loaves with it. Use 16 cups#24:5 16 cups Literally, “2/10 of an ephah” (4.4 l). of flour for each loaf. 6Put them in two rows on the golden table before the Lord. Six loaves will be in each row. 7Put pure frankincense on each row. This will help the Lord remember the gift. 8Every Sabbath day Aaron will put the bread in order before the Lord. This must be done forever. This agreement with the Israelites will continue forever. 9That bread will belong to Aaron and his sons. They will eat the bread in a holy place, because that bread is one of the special gifts to the Lord. It is Aaron’s share forever.”
The Man Who Cursed God
10There was a son of an Israelite woman and an Egyptian father. He was walking among the Israelites, and he started fighting in camp. 11The Israelite woman’s son began cursing, using the Lord’s name in a bad way, so the people brought him to Moses. (The name of the man’s mother was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, from the tribe of Dan.) 12The people held him as a prisoner and waited for the Lord’s command to be made clear to them.
13Then the Lord said to Moses, 14“Bring the man who cursed to a place outside the camp. Then bring together everyone who heard him curse. They will put their hands on his head.#24:14 put their hands on his head To show that all these people were sharing in punishing the man. And then all the people must throw stones at him and kill him. 15You must tell the Israelites: Anyone who curses their God must be punished. 16Anyone who speaks against the name of the Lord must be put to death. All the people must stone him. Any foreigner or anyone born in Israel who uses the Lord’s name in a bad way must be put to death.
17“And whoever kills another person must be put to death. 18Whoever kills an animal that belongs to another person must give another animal to take its place.#24:18 give … its place Literally, “pay for it, life for life.”
19“And whoever causes an injury to their neighbor must be given the same kind of injury: 20a broken bone for a broken bone, an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. The same kind of injury a person gives another person must be given that person. 21Whoever kills an animal must pay for the animal. But whoever kills another person must be put to death.
22“The law will be the same for foreigners and for people from your own country. This is because I am the Lord your God.”
23Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they took the man who cursed to a place outside the camp. Then they killed him with stones. So the Israelites did just what the Lord had commanded Moses.
