Iyoḇ (Job) 42
42
1And Iyoḇ answered יהוה and said,
2“You know that You are able to do all, and that no purpose is withheld from You.
3Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore I declared but I did not understand, matters too marvellous for me, which I did not know.
4Listen, please, and let me speak. I ask You, then would You make it known to me?’
5I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You.
6Therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”
7And it came to be, after יהוה had spoken these words to Iyoḇ, that יהוה said to Eliphaz the Tĕmanite, “My wrath has burned against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as did My servant Iyoḇ.
8And now, take seven bulls and seven rams, and go to My servant Iyoḇ, and offer up an ascending offering for yourselves. And let My servant Iyoḇ pray for you – for I accept him – lest I punish you; because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as did My servant Iyoḇ.”
9So Eliphaz the Tĕmanite and Bildaḏ the Shuḥite, Tsophar the Na‛amathite went and did as יהוה commanded them. And יהוה accepted the face of Iyoḇ.
10And יהוה turned the captivity of Iyoḇ when he prayed for his friends. And יהוה gave Iyoḇ twice as much as he had before.
11And all his brothers, and all his sisters, and all those who had been his friends before, came to him and ate food with him in his house. And they sympathised with him and comforted him for all the evil that יהוה had brought upon him. And they each gave him a qesitah#A monetary unit of uncertain value, perhaps in the form of a lamb. and each one a ring of gold.
12And יהוה blessed the latter days of Iyoḇ more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys.
13And he had seven sons and three daughters.
14And he called the name of the first Yemimah, and the name of the second Qetsi‛ah, and the name of the third Qeren-Happuḵ.
15And in all the land were found no women so beautiful as the daughters of Iyoḇ. And their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.
16And after this Iyoḇ lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations.
17And Iyoḇ died, old and satisfied with days.

Job’s Repentance and Restoration
1Then#Hebrew “And” Job answered Yahweh and said,
2“I know that you can do all things,
and any scheme from you will not be thwarted.
3‘Who is this darkening counsel without knowledge?’
Therefore I uttered, but#Hebrew “and” I did not understand;
things too wonderful for me,#Literally “wonderful things from me” but I did not know.
4‘Hear and I will speak;
I will question you, then#Hebrew “and” inform me.’
5By the ear’s hearing I heard of you,
but#Hebrew “and” now my eye has seen you.
6Therefore I despise myself
and repent in dust and ashes.”
7And then#Literally “And it happened” after Yahweh spoke these words to Job, Yahweh said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath has been kindled#Literally “My nose became hot” against you#Singular and against the two of your friends, for you#Plural have not spoken to me what is right as my servant Job has. 8So then,#Or “And now,” or “Therefore” take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job and offer a burnt offering for yourselves. And my servant Job will pray for you,#Plural for I will certainly accept his prayer,#Literally “if his face I will lift up,” or “indeed his face I will lift up” (“if” used as an oath particle) so that it will not be done with you#Plural according to your folly, for you#Plural have not spoken to me what is right as my servant Job has.”
9So#Hebrew “And” Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went and did just as Yahweh had told them, and Yahweh accepted Job’s prayer.#Literally “Yahweh lifted up the face of Job”
10Then#Hebrew “And” Yahweh returned Job’s fortune when he prayed to him on behalf of his friends. Thus#Hebrew “And” Yahweh increased all that Job had twice as much as before.#Literally “all which for Job to twice” 11So#Hebrew “And” all his brothers and all his sisters and all those who had known him before#Literally “to faces” came to him, and they ate bread#Or “food” with him in his house and showed sympathy to him and comforted him for all the disaster#Or “evil” that Yahweh had brought upon him. Then#Hebrew “And” each one gave to him one piece of money, and each one gave to him one ornamental ring of gold.
12So#Hebrew “And” Yahweh blessed Job’s latter days more than his beginning. Thus he had#Literally “And it came to be for him,” or “And it was for him” fourteen thousand sheep and goats and six thousand camels and a thousand pair of oxen and a thousand female donkeys. 13And he had#Literally “And it came to be for him,” or “And it was for him” seven sons and three daughters. 14And he called the name of the first Jemimah and the name of the second Keziah and the name of the third Qeren-Happuk. 15And beautiful women were not found in all the land like Job’s daughters, and their father gave to them an inheritance in the midst of their brothers.
16And Job lived after this one hundred and forty years, and he saw his sons and his grandsons#Literally “the sons of his sons” for four generations. 17Then#Hebrew “And” Job died old and full of days.
