Psalms 83

Nations Conspire Against Israel
1A song: a psalm of Asaph.
2God, do not keep silent. Do not hold Your peace, O God. Do not be still.
3For look, Your enemies make an uproar. Those who hate You lift up their head.
4They make a shrewd plot against Your people, conspiring against Your treasured ones.
5“Come,” they say, “let’s wipe them out as a nation! Let Israel’s name be remembered no more!”
6For with one mind they plot together. Against You do they make a covenant.
7The tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites,
8Gebal, Ammon and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre,
9even Assyria has joined them, becoming a strong arm for Lot’s sons. Selah
10Do to them as You did to Midian, to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River,
11who perished at En-dor— they became as dung for the ground.
12Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb— all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
13who said, “Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.”
14My God, make them like tumbleweed, like chaff before the wind.
15As a fire burns a forest, and as a flame sets mountains ablaze,
16so pursue them with Your tempest, and terrify them with Your storm.
17Cover their faces with shame, so they may seek Your Name—Adonai.
18Let them be ashamed and dismayed forever. Let them be humiliated and perish.
19Let them know that You alone —whose Name is Adonai— are El Elyon over all the earth.

O God, Do Not Keep Silence
A Song. A Psalm of #See Ps. 50, titleAsaph.
1O God, do not keep silence;
# See Ps. 28:1 do not hold your peace or be still, O God!
2For behold, your enemies #[Ps. 2:1] make an uproar;
those who hate you have #Judg. 8:28raised their heads.
3They lay #[Neh. 4:8] crafty plans against your people;
they consult together against your #See Ps. 27:5; 31:20treasured ones.
4They say, “Come, #Jer. 48:2; [Ps. 74:8; Esth. 3:6]let us wipe them out as a nation;
let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”
5For they conspire with one accord;

all their princes like #See Judg. 8:5-21Zebah and Zalmunna,
12who said, #[2 Chr. 20:11]“Let us take possession for ourselves
of the pastures of God.”
13O my God, make them like #Isa. 17:13 whirling dust,#83:13 Or like a tumbleweed
like #Job 13:25; 21:18; [Ps. 1:4]chaff before the wind.
14As #[Isa. 9:18]; See Isa. 10:16-19 fire consumes the forest,
as the flame #Deut. 32:22sets the mountains ablaze,
