Psalms 80

Restore Us, Revive Us
1For the music director, on “Lilies,” a testimony: a psalm of Asaph.
2Give ear, Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock. You who are enthroned upon the cheruvim, shine forth!
3Before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up Your might, and come to save us.
4O God, restore us, make Your face shine, and we will be saved.
5Adonai-Tzva’ot, how long will You be angry with the prayer of Your people?
6You have fed them the bread of tears and made them drink a measure of tears.
7You make us a contention to our neighbors, and our enemies mock as they please.
8Elohei-Tzva’ot, restore us, and make Your face shine, and we will be saved.
9You pulled out a vine from Egypt. You drove out nations and planted it.
10You cleared a place for it, and it took deep root and filled the land.
11The mountains were covered by its shade, the mighty cedars with its branches.
12It sent out its branches to the sea, and its shoots to the river.
13Why have You broken down its fences, so all who pass by the way pick its fruit?
14A boar from the forest ravages it, whatever moves in the field feeds on it.
15Elohei-Tzva’ot, please return! Look down from heaven and see! Now take care of this vine—
16the shoot Your right hand planted— the son You strengthened for Yourself.
17It is burned with fire, it is cut down. They perish from the rebuke of Your face.
18Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand—the son of man You made strong for Yourself.
19Then we will not turn away from You. Revive us, and we will call on Your Name.
20Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot, restore us. Make Your face shine, and we will be saved.

Psalm 80
For the choir director; according to shoshannim eduth; by Asaph; a psalm.
1Open your ears, O Shepherd of Israel,
the one who leads ⌞the descendants of⌟ Joseph like sheep,
the one who is enthroned over the angels.#80:1 Or “cherubim.”
2Appear in front of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh.
Wake up your power, and come to save us.
3O God, restore us and smile on us
so that we may be saved.
4O Lord God, commander of armies, how long will you smolder in anger
against the prayer of your people?
5You made them eat tears as food.
You often made them drink ⌞their own⌟ tears.
6You made us a source of conflict to our neighbors,
and our enemies made fun of us.
7O God, commander of armies, restore us and smile on us
so that we may be saved.
8You brought a vine from Egypt.
You forced out the nations and planted it.
9You cleared the ground for it
so that it took root and filled the land.
10Its shade covered the mountains.
Its branches covered the mighty cedars.
11It reached out with its branches to the Mediterranean Sea.
Its shoots reached the Euphrates River.
12Why did you break down the stone fences around this vine?
All who pass by are picking its fruit.
13Wild boars from the forest graze on it.
Wild animals devour it.
14O God, commander of armies, come back!
Look from heaven and see!
Come to help this vine.
15Take care of what your right hand planted,
the son you strengthened for yourself.
16The vine has been cut down and burned.
Let them be destroyed by the threatening look on your face.
17Let your power rest on the man you have chosen,
the son of man you strengthened for yourself.
18Then we will never turn away from you.
Give us life again, and we will call on you.
19O Lord God, commander of armies, restore us, and smile on us
so that we may be saved.
