Psalms 132

Promise of Ben-David
1A Song of Ascents. Adonai, remember David, all his afflictions,
2and how he swore to Adonai, vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:
3“I will not enter the tent of my house nor lie on my bed,
4nor will I will give sleep to my eyes, nor slumber to my eyelids,
5till I find a place for Adonai, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”
6Behold, we heard of it in Ephratha, we found it in the fields of Joar.
7Let us go into His dwelling place, let us bow at His footstool.
8Arise, Adonai, to Your resting place— You, and the Ark of Your might.
9Let Your kohanim wear righteousness, and let Your godly ones sing for joy.
10For Your servant David’s sake do not turn away the face of Your anointed.
11Adonai has sworn to David a true promise He will not revoke: “From the fruit of your body I will set one upon your throne—
12if your children keep My covenant and My law that I will teach them, then their sons will sit on your throne forever.”
13For Adonai has chosen Zion, He has desired it for His dwelling:
14“This is My resting place forever. Here I dwell, for I have desired it.
15I will abundantly bless her food. I will satisfy her needy ones with bread.
16I will clothe her kohanim with salvation, and her godly ones will sing aloud for joy.
17There will I make a horn spring up for David, I have set up a lamp for My anointed.
18His enemies I will clothe with shame, but upon himself his crown will shine.”

Psalms 132
132
In Praise of the Temple
1 LORD, do not forget David
and all the hardships he endured.
2Remember, LORD, what he promised,
the vow he made to you, the Mighty God of Jacob:
3“I will not go home or go to bed;
4I will not rest or sleep,
5until I provide a place for the LORD,
a home for the Mighty God of Jacob.”

2 Chr 6.41–42
In Bethlehem we heard about the Covenant Box,
and we found it in the fields of Jearim.
7We said, “Let us go to the LORD's house;
let us worship before his throne.”
8Come to the Temple, LORD, with the Covenant Box,
the symbol of your power,
and stay here for ever.
9May your priests do always what is right;
may your people shout for joy!
10You made a promise to your servant David;
do not reject your chosen king, LORD.

2 Sam 7.12–16; 1 Chr 17.11–14; Ps 89.3–4; Acts 2.30 You made a solemn promise to David —
a promise you will not take back:
“I will make one of your sons king,
and he will rule after you.
12If your sons are true to my covenant
and to the commands I give them,
their sons, also, will succeed you for all time as kings.”
13The LORD has chosen Zion;
he wants to make it his home:
14“This is where I will live for ever;
this is where I want to rule.
15I will richly provide Zion with all she needs;
I will satisfy her poor with food.
16I will bless her priests in all they do,
and her people will sing and shout for joy.

1 Kgs 11.36
Here I will make one of David's descendants a great king;
here I will preserve the rule of my chosen king.
18I will cover his enemies with shame,
but his kingdom will prosper and flourish.”
