Job’s Argument with God
1Then Job answered:
2“Even today my complaint is rebellious; His hand is heavy despite my groaning.
3If only I knew where to find Him; if only I could go to His dwelling.
4I would lay out my case before Him and fill my mouth with arguments.
5I would know with what words He would answer me, and understand what He would say to me.
6Would He oppose me with great power? No, He would only pay attention to me.
7There the upright can reason with Him, and there I would forever be delivered from my Judge.
8But, if I go to the east, He is not there; if I go to the west, I do not find Him.
9When He is in the north, I cannot perceive Him; When He turns south, I do not see Him.
10Yet He knows the way that I take; if He tested me, I would come out as gold.
11My foot has held closely to His steps; I have kept to His way and have not strayed.
12I have not departed from the commands of His lips. I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily bread.
13He is unchangeable, and who can change Him? Whatever His soul desires, He does.
14For He fulfills the decree against me, and many such things are with Him.
15That is why I am terrified at His presence; when I consider this, I fear Him.
16God has made my heart faint; Shaddai has terrified me.
17Yet I am not silenced because of the darkness, nor by the thick darkness that covers my face.”

5I would know the words that He would answer me
and understand what He would say to me.

7There the righteous might dispute with Him;
so would I be delivered forever from my Judge.
8#Job 9:11 “Look, I go forward, but He is not there,
and backward, but I cannot perceive Him;
9when He works on the left hand, I cannot behold Him;
He turns to the right hand, I cannot see Him.
10#Ps 66:10; 1Pe 1:7 But He knows the way that I take;
when He has tested me, I will come forth as gold.
11#Ps 44:18; 17:5 My foot has held fast to His steps;
I have kept His way and have not turned aside.
12#Jn 4:32; 4:34 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips;
I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.
13#Ps 115:3; Job 12:14 “But He is resolute, and who can turn Him?
And whatever His soul desires, that He does.
14#1Th 3:3 For He performs what is appointed forme,
and many such things are with Him.
15Therefore I am troubled at His presence;
when I consider, I am afraid of Him.
16#Job 27:2; Ps 22:14 For God makes my heart soft,
and the Almighty troubles me;
17#Job 19:8 because I was not cut off from the presence of darkness,
nor has He covered the darkness from my face.
