Ezekiel 1
1
1In the thirtieth year on the fifth day of the fourth month, as I was among the exiles by the river Chebar, the heavens opened, and I saw visions of God.
2In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of King Jehoiachin’s captivity,
3the word of Adonai came to Ezekiel the kohen, son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar. (The hand of Adonai was upon him there.)
Vision of Supernatural Beings
4I looked, and behold, a storm wind came from the north, a great cloud with flashing fire and brightness all around it, and something like a glowing alloy out of the fire.
5From within it came the likeness of four living creatures. This was their appearance: they had a likeness of a human,
6but each one had four faces and each one of them had four wings.
7Their legs were straight and the soles of their feet were like the hoof of a calf. They sparkled like the color of burnished bronze.
8They had human hands under their wings on their four sides. The four of them had faces and wings:
9their wings touched one another; they did not turn when they moved; each could move in the direction of any of its faces.
10As for the form of their faces, each had a human face, the four had the face of a lion on the right side, the four had the face of an ox on the left side and the four had the face of an eagle.
11Such were their faces. Their wings were spread out above. Each creature had two wings touching the wing of another, while another two were covering their bodies.
12Now each being could move in the direction of any of its faces; wherever the Ruach would go, they went, without turning as they went.
13As for the form of the living creatures, their appearance was like burning coals of fire, resembling torches moving between the living creatures. There was brightness to the fire, and lightning went forth from the fire.
14The living creatures were running back and forth like flashes of lightning.
15As I looked at the living creatures, behold, one wheel was on the ground next to each of the four-faced creatures.
16The appearance and structure of the wheels was like the gleaming of beryl. The four had the same likeness, their appearance and their structure seemed to be a wheel within a wheel.
17When they went, they went in any of their four directions without pivoting as they went.
18Their rims were high and awesome—all four rims were full of eyes all around.
19When the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them. When the living creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose.
20Wherever the Ruach wanted to go, they went, in the direction the Ruach wanted to go. The wheels rose along with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
21Whenever the creatures went, the wheels went. When the creatures stood still, these wheels stood still. When the creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
22Now over the heads of the living creatures there was something like an expanse, shining like the color of ice, stretched forth over their heads.
23Under the expanse, their wings were stretched out straight, one toward the other. Each had another pair covering its body.
24When they moved, I could hear the sound of their wings like the sound of rushing waters, like the voice of Shaddai, a noise of tumult like the noise of an army. Whenever they stood still, they let down their wings.
25There came a voice from above the expanse over their heads. Whenever they stood still, they let down their wings.
26Above the expanse over their heads was something like a throne, resembling a sapphire stone. Above the shape of the throne was a figure of human appearance.
27From what appeared as his waist upward, I saw a glowing metal, looking like a fire encased in a frame. From what was like his waist down, I saw the appearance of fire radiating around him.
28Like the appearance of the rainbow in the cloud on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the radiance. It was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Adonai. I saw it, fell upon my face, and heard the voice of the One who was speaking.

Rev 19.11. In the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was among the exiles by the river Chebar, the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God. 2On the fifth day of the month (it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin), 3the word of the Lord came to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the Lord was upon him there.
4As I looked, behold, a stormy wind came out of the north, and a great cloud, with brightness round about it, and fire flashing forth continually, and in the midst of the fire, as it were gleaming bronze. 5#Rev 4.6. And from the midst of it came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: they had the form of men, 6but each had four faces, and each of them had four wings. 7Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the sole of a calf's foot; and they sparkled like burnished bronze. 8Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands. And the four had their faces and their wings thus: 9their wings touched one another; they went every one straight forward, without turning as they went. 10#Rev 4.7. As for the likeness of their faces, each had the face of a man in front;#1.10 Cn: Heb lacks in front the four had the face of a lion on the right side, the four had the face of an ox on the left side, and the four had the face of an eagle at the back.#1.10 Cn: Heb lacks at the back 11Such were their faces. And their wings were spread out above; each creature had two wings, each of which touched the wing of another, while two covered their bodies. 12And each went straight forward; wherever the spirit would go, they went, without turning as they went. 13#Rev 4.5. In the midst of#1.13 Gk Old Latin: Heb And the likeness of the living creatures there was something that looked like burning coals of fire, like torches moving to and fro among the living creatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went forth lightning. 14And the living creatures darted to and fro, like a flash of lightning.
15Now as I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel upon the earth beside the living creatures, one for each of the four of them.#1.15 Heb of their faces 16As for the appearance of the wheels and their construction: their appearance was like the gleaming of a chrysolite; and the four had the same likeness, their construction being as it were a wheel within a wheel. 17When they went, they went in any of their four directions#1.17 Heb on their four sides without turning as they went. 18#Ezek 10.12; Rev 4.8. The four wheels had rims and they had spokes;#1.18 Cn: Heb uncertain and their rims were full of eyes round about. 19And when the living creatures went, the wheels went beside them; and when the living creatures rose from the earth, the wheels rose. 20Wherever the spirit would go, they went, and the wheels rose along with them; for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels. 21When those went, these went; and when those stood, these stood; and when those rose from the earth, the wheels rose along with them; for the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
22Over the heads of the living creatures there was the likeness of a firmament, shining like crystal,#1.22 Gk: Heb awesome crystal spread out above their heads. 23And under the firmament their wings were stretched out straight, one toward another; and each creature had two wings covering its body. 24#Ezek 43.2; Rev 1.15; 14.2; 19.6. And when they went, I heard the sound of their wings like the sound of many waters, like the thunder of the Almighty, a sound of tumult like the sound of a host; when they stood still, they let down their wings. 25And there came a voice from above the firmament over their heads; when they stood still, they let down their wings.

Rev 1.13; 4.2. And above the firmament over their heads there was the likeness of a throne, in appearance like sapphire;#1.26 Heb lapis lazuli and seated above the likeness of a throne was a likeness as it were of a human form. 27And upward from what had the appearance of his loins I saw as it were gleaming bronze, like the appearance of fire enclosed round about; and downward from what had the appearance of his loins I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and there was brightness round about him.#1.27 Or it 28Like the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud on the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about.
Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard the voice of one speaking.
