The Prophet Reveals Destruction
1Hear this word that Adonai has spoken against you, Bnei Yisrael, against the whole family that I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying:
2“Only you have I known from among all the families of the earth. Therefore, I will punish you for all your iniquities.
3Can two walk together unless they meet by appointment?
4Does a lion roar in the forest when he has no prey? Does a young lion growl from his den unless he has taken prey?
5Does a bird fall into a trap on the ground if it has no bait? Will a snare spring up from the ground without taking anything?
6If a shofar alarm sounds in a city, will people not tremble? If there is calamity in a city, has not Adonai caused it?
7For the Lord Adonai, will do nothing, unless He has revealed His counsel to His servants the prophets.
8A lion has roared, who will not fear? My Lord Adonai has spoken, who shall not prophesy?
9Proclaim on the citadels in Ashdod and the citadels in the land of Egypt: “Assemble on Samaria’s mountains: Behold the great tumult within it, even the oppression within it.”
10They do not know how to be honest, —declares Adonai— those who are saving up violence and destruction in their citadels.
11Therefore thus says my Lord Adonai: “An adversary will surround the land! He will bring down your strength. Your citadels will be plundered
12Thus says Adonai: “Just as the shepherd snatches out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear, so will Bnei-Yisrael dwelling in Samaria escape with the corner of a bed or a head of a couch.
13Hear, and testify against the house of Jacob.” It is the declaration of my Lord Adonai Elohei-Tzva’ot.
14“For in a day I shall punish Israel for the transgressions of Israel, and attend to the altars of Bethel— the horns of the altar will be cut off and fall to the ground.
15I will also strike the winter house together with the summer house. The houses of ivory will perish, and great houses will be demolished.” It is the declaration of Adonai.

Amos 3
1¶ Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O sons of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,
2You only have I known of all the families of the earth; therefore, I will visit all your iniquities against you.
3Can two walk together except they be agreed?
4Will a lion roar in the forest when he has no prey? Will a young lion cry out of his den if he has taken nothing?
5Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth without a fowler? Shall the snare rise up from the earth and have taken nothing at all?
6Shall the shofar be blown in the city and the people not be afraid? Shall there be any evil in the city which the Lord has not done?
7Because the Lord GOD will do nothing unless he reveals his secret to his slaves the prophets.
8The lion has roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD has spoken, who can but prophesy?
9¶ Publish upon the palaces of Ashdod and upon the palaces of the land of Egypt and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria and behold the great oppression in the midst thereof and the great violence in the midst thereof.
10For they do not know to do right, said the Lord, storing up violence and robbery in their palaces.
11Therefore thus said the Lord GOD: An adversary there shall be even round about the land, and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.
12Thus hath the Lord said: As the pastor takes out of the mouth of the lion two legs or a piece of an ear, so shall the sons of Israel escape that dwell in Samaria in the corner of the bed and at the border of the couch.
13Hear ye, and protest in the house of Jacob, said the Lord GOD, the God of the hosts,
14that in the day that I shall visit the rebellions of Israel upon him, I will also visit upon the altars of Bethel, and the horns of the altar shall be cut off and fall to the ground.
15And I will smite the winter house with the summer house, and the houses of ivory shall perish, and many houses shall be cut off, said the Lord.
